Re: Wastegate used as bov
i guess if u had enouph vac. u could hook the signal up to the top port but why would u want a big *** wastegate instead of a bov?

Re: Wastegate used as bov
easier to control the boost going to the tb than it is to control it off the exhaust
but you dont get no more sick banging and popping noises if you run it off the charge pipe

The guy above you is correct, quite a few of the big HP street comp of SFWD guys use the wastegates on the charge pipes to control boost through CO2. If you look at the clutchmasters turbo integra you can see a tial 60mm on each side of the charge pipes

Eggums car in the first picture, cant remember who's car is in the second picture. Eggums car has a 38mm Tial bolted to the Intercooler and second car has a NewGen.

im going to attempt this real shortly here. my idea is the give the intake just enough "leak" to keep the turbine speeds up high, while maintaining a certain boost level by using the NLR controller as well as a pwm solenoid for the charge pipe wg.

the most common reason for doing this is to get better control of the boost while its on the anti-lag. i have a special solenoid here for doing it like that. that will open it while the clutch is depressed and apply full pressure to the top of the gate to keep it shut once the clutch is out.
also common on supercharged cars to run a gate on the charge pipe, for obvious reasons.
typically the only other time you would see the gate being used on the charge pipe is if the exhast mainfold and exhaust driven wastegate(s) will not regulate boost well enough.
the valves are pretty much always simply on/off.....not used PWM style like dave is trying to do.
i plaid around with it a little bit on my car....... found out it was a waste of time because my boost controller / manifold / wastegates work just fine....and my engine management can regulate boost on the 2 step. ended up taking it off.
i think tony the tiger on here is not using an exhaust wastegate and regulating everything off of the charge pipe gate. im sure spool up and response is awesome. in theory the turbo would crap out sooner i'd imagine, seems theory seems to be a crock of crap a lot of the time though haha

Re: Wastegate used as bov
its to over spin the turbo at the line to get the boost up...you can do this with a second bov, which is what we recommend

if you listen to eggum's car in video's, it seems to whistle more than the average honda. i belive this is caused by the turbo spinning faster than normal. Eggum also uses a 35mm wg on the charge pipe. i would imagine this would help a big deal while on the line(anti lag, as well as in the 1st half of the track)
