Default wastegate query- KIWI manifold?

hi- okay, i've always been under the assumption that a wastegate should be on the inlet side of the turbine- right? [ on the manifold itself]
so look at the kiwi h22 manifold: very pretty-

very nice! but where the heck is the wastegate?
it's on the frikkin exit side of the turbo??

can you DO that? ok, obviously so. . . i guess thats a 5-bolt setup on the turbine, no pictures are too clear on that. i'm going to use my super powers of banal obviousness and say all internal wastegates are on the exit side of the turbine?
then why are aftermarket wastegates on the inlet side?

maybe someone can just explain the basics on a wastegate's purposes?
i swear, i'm not retarded.

its really not on the exit side. it actually sits on the turbine housing before the turbine itself. so effectively it is still in the same tract.. if the pressure builds up inthe exh manifold its also building up before the turbine wheel as well. im just wondering if this location is better to guard against boost spike like weve been talking about with the drag manifolds that use the wastegate in one runner. it would seem that this is a better set-up than the one with it on a runner.. dean

also...as long as that hole on the turbine flange is big enough, thats a great spot for the wg.

Isn't that the spot that an internal wastegate normally uses?

im looking at the kiwi for the b series right now and you can actually see the pipe the leads to the wastegate. it does sit under where the the collector is. real nice.

kiwi manifolds look good and everything but they are notorious for cracking. id stay away if i were you.

actually the external wastegate on the downpipe area is nothing new. if u look at turbo regal and dsm sites they sell these configurations.
i always wondered why no honds guys run this set up. maybe most of your t3/t4 set ups dont have the feature inside which enables u to do do this. if u had an internal wastegate flapper ud just remove the flapper and open up that internal port a pit. make sure the downpipe flange has a large enough opening etc etc.

check this dsm link

also heres a saab link with more explanation: http://www.twinsaabs.com/exhaust/deltagate.html

I have a kiwi fab manifold for an LS that I am trying to trade. I just want a cast manifold, tial wastegate, dump tube, and a little cash for my kiwi fab SS manifold and HKS wastegate. (kiwi is $1000+)

the place where atomic used to be is now called importbuilders. they did have the kiwis for a while and yes, they are known for cracking. but i heard that any tubular manifold will crack after time.

I added braces that connect the header flange to the turbo flange on my Kiwi and I haven't had any cracking problems yet! I also have a flex pipe on my dp.
