Waste Gate Dump tube atmospheric exit location. Where is optimal?
Hey guys,
I have a question about where your dump tubes are exiting. I'm going to be getting my dump tube made up on Friday and was wondering where the best place is for them to exit. I dont want it connected to my exhaust but i dont want it to be mega loud to... Its a 38mm (1.5) pipe whats coming off the wastegate.
Please post up some ideas and why you got it to exit there.
Thank you

In one of the posts jeff evans mensioned that it should at least go under the oil pan.
you dont really want your turbo sucking up that "waste"...

Jeff also did a test with the dump exiting in the engine bay and then under the oil pan. It gained a significant amount of power under the oil pan.

True. That's all you need to do. For best results just make sure it dumps below the pan and engine bay. I don't think an open dump is "mega loud" but everyone has their own oppinion. If you want it quiet you'll have to connect it to your exhaust

Definitely make sure the dump tube is at least long enough to go under the oil pan as it is a HUGE restriction if it is in the engine bay. When the waste gas is dumped into the bay, the turbo sucks in that hot, dense air and in some cases power is reduced by as much as 50+hp. Also, if you run a recirculating dump tube, power will also be reduced. I have found that an open dump tube is not much louder than a recirculating dump tube and with the huge power restriction, the sound is not that important to me.

^I agree. Usually the rule I use is AT LEAST under the pan. The longer the dump the better. Get that gas outta there!!!
