to all that say to swap for 5 speed, is it because honda transmission is that bad? i was under impression that automatic could work very well with boost.

Re: want to go turbo. whats first? (LSDelSol)
If the auto has upgradeable internals (clutches and bands, torque convertor, line pressure, etc) then stick with it because it will alolow you to build boost at a stand still and get great 60' times that a standard would have a hard time being able to do. Remember the GM syclone and typhoons? They were turbo-auto-allwheel drive monsters that ripped off mid 13's at 98MPH right off the dealer lot. All due to the ability to build boost at a stand still and great traction of allwheel drive, not to mention a turbo. Anyone seen GM's 400HP turbo-allwheel drive trailblazer?

Re: want to go turbo. whats first? (Bontke)
ya its sounds like i just need a new car cus i have a salvage titel on my car so its not worth anything so if i sell it i wont get anything. so i was wanting to turbo it cus i figured that would be the only way to make it fast. the honda transmission dont use bands though so i cant tighten anything. thanx alot 4 the help and if you have any more comments please write them. thanx

GO to a junkyard and when you buy a tranny that will probly throw in all the clutch assem. and linkages and stuff you need. I know the feeling of a salvage title you really cant get crap out of it.

Auto trannies are good if they can hold up. Honda autos seem to pop under high horsepower. Get the 5 speed and then definatly build that block. A turbo motor is only as good as its weakest link.

I agree that a 5-spd would be a better route to take, but have you given any thought to getting the auto tranny rebuilt?

yea, swap to a 5spd. I said i would never do it because i wanted to prove a automatic could be fast too. Well it was quick, but on only 8psi, lets just say rt. 301 leaving MIR is a graveyard for my tranny.

sell it or trade it in for a 5 speed
i was under impression that automatic could work very well with boost. It works...there are a few on this board who do it...but you will never be able to run it as hard and as fast as a 5 speed with the same setup.

swap to 5-speed...i had automatic turbo when i was sohc in my sol and while it was a definate improvement over stock i quickly grew tired of it..research teh auto-manual swap then make your choice from there...i just got done wiht my swap last weekend and it was alot cheaper and easier than i had thought...really no need to sell your car...

I love how everyone, says. swap to a five speed.. thats good stuff..
If you really think about it, IF,, yes IF you have a atuo tranny that can hold the power to move the car, its worth to stick with an auto.. You dont lose nor drop boost during shifts, and on the track can stay very very consistant.. And one more point, it is not humaly possible to shift as fast as an automagic.. When you own an five speed and shift hard into second sure it feels like you are rippin ****. But if you race a boosted car with an automagic, the auto will pull everytime you push in the clutch take the car out and back into another gear the 5 speed will lost boost. Unlike the auto which will have shifted before you even have time to shift into your next gear. Along with that while the 5 speed is losing boost the auto will be gaining boost. And its not that hard to get a auto tranny built to with hold the power, if anyone saw last months sport compact, the 700+ boosted b16 direct port n2o fed CRX is an AUTO.. think about it once..
aite thats just my $.2
peace.
