walbro fuel pump
Would a 255 lph walbro fuel pump be a sufficient fuel pump for a drag kit running 7-10 psi of boost? What is a good price for this pump?

Re: walbro fuel pump (teamrocket si)
You need a high pressure pump for the DRAG kit. I have yet to find an intank pump that can meet the extremely high pressure needs of the DRAG kit.
This has been covered a thousand times. DRAG includes the Airtex inline pump for a reason, it works well. Install it inline after your fuel filter. Leave your stock fuel pump in place. Thanks Dustin |

Re: walbro fuel pump (rawdigga)
Well, he did not ask what fuel pump was good to run at low fuel pressure with an SDS system.
He has a DRAG fuel system. And yes, the Walbro High pressure intank pump is NOT ENOUGH to cope with the DRAG fuel needs. This has been covered like a thousand times... I think we should stop the misinformation. Stock fuel pressure is 40psi or so, take 12:1 with 7psi of boost you are at 128, stock FPR is a 1:1 so add 7psi to that. 135psi fuel pressure. I wonder what the flow on the walbro is at 135 fuel pressure. Well I will just tell you, not enough to keep your motor from leaning out. Dustin |
Re: walbro fuel pump (rawdigga)
The Walbro will not be enough. Now if you use some 310s and an 8:1 rise rate it should be.
Did any one else notice that the Airtex pump says not to run pressures in excess of 125 psi? |

Keep in mind that I am a big jerk to everyone http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmilep.gif
The SDS system is very cool. I am glad you went with it. I know many people that have leaned out their motors using the "high pressure" Walbro intank pumps. Now on that site you listed, they do not even rate the pump past 110psi. Why you might ask? Because sure it can create tons of pressure... but flow is at almost zero. "high pressure" 255 ltr/hr pump (gal/hr) 110psi 9gal/hr Since they are wise enough to not give us the numbers past that (since the pumps cannot handle that pressure), we have to get the numbers through interpolation. From 100->110psi the pump went from 19gal/hr to 9 gal/hr. It does not take a math wizard to generalize about how low the flow rate will be at 135psi. Not only can the pump not even create 135psi, but if it could there would be zero flow. Dustin |
Re: walbro fuel pump (teamrocket si)
What if I got the walbro in addition to what comes with the drag kit and some rc 310 injectors? Would that be enough?

Re: walbro fuel pump (dustin)
so 310's at 10 psi of boost with 8:1 rising rate = walboro high pressure pump??
also.i am trying to stay away from a vafc(those types of devices)...will I be ok? [Modified by SiRkid, 11:10 PM 10/7/2001] |
Re: walbro fuel pump (SiRkid)
That should work pretty well for about 7-8psi.

Re: walbro fuel pump (dustin)
I wouldnt run the walbro gss342 over 100 psi and expect it to last long at all. With 310s you should be having a static FP of 42psi(assuming you lower fp to allow idle and dont use a VAFC) with a 8:1 rise rate aiming for a max of 100 psi that would be...7.25 lounds of boost. And 8 should be doable, but nothing higher than that imo with that pump.

Re: walbro fuel pump (dustin)
I always read of guys saying they replace their 12:1 FMU disks to 10:1 or 8:1. I am not familiar with the way FMU's are designed - so is this true..can you buy these different rise rate disks. For instance, say I get an 12:1 FMU, can I just replace the 12:1 disk with a 10:1 if I decide to get 310 injectors?

Re: walbro fuel pump (maxim_force)
Yep you just buy the disc sets from Vortech. They are cheap and you can swap the disc out in a few minutes.

MUHAHAHAHA, it's all about this question that never goes away.

Re: walbro fuel pump (TurboInteg95)
Standalone ECU and 1:1 fpr = Walbro GSS342 ok
FMU=Bosch or inline pump The Walbro Hi psi GSS342 is awesome but when used with an FMU it will take a crap! It actually performs better than the bosch... that is until you hit 100psi! |
Re: walbro fuel pump (drealgsr)
What about using a lower disc set which will net less fuel pressure and a fuel control device that works on boost only, thereby, turning a small injector into a bigger one. So you will be using the fuel pressure to theoretically increase the injector size and use the controller to ncrease the pulse width. I think this is a good idea. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif

Re: walbro fuel pump (rawdigga)
yes good choice... i paid 102 shipped for mine NEW 255lph high pressure... --joe |

Re: walbro fuel pump (dustin)
Ok, but I'm using 370cc(stock is 320-340cc) on my 1993 Prelude. I think the stock ECU will be able to handle them off boost and on boost I am going to try a 6:1 FMU along with my PMS kit to increase the pulse width. Will this work with up to 10psi of boost? http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emdgust.gif

Re: walbro fuel pump (Islander9407)
I got my GSS342 for $85 plus shipping...:0

Re: walbro fuel pump (drealgsr)
i was plaining to get the drag kit also.. i was thinking of getting 440cc and with a bosch intake pump what you guys think ? you think the stock FMU that comes with the drag kit will be okay with the bosch intake pump ?

Re: walbro fuel pump (SiBirdie)
so whats a good pump you guys reccomend?
I would prefrebly like one that can flow nicely at 6-10 psi of boost . thanks |
Re: walbro fuel pump (SiRkid)
Well, I have 8psi in my future so, guess I'll be selling the Walbro and replacing it with an inline unit! Any reccomendations as to which inlines to use or where to find them?

Re: walbro fuel pump (teamrocket si)
So basically, we shouldn't be running the Walbro pump on the DRAG kit??? I had the Walbro in my car when I had the SC. When I got the DRAG kit, I figured that the Walbro would be enough to compensate my fuel needs. If it is recommended that I dump the Walbro and go the with the inline pump that came with the DRAG kit, let me know please. This is my current setup.
