Default Walbro 400lph In-Tank Pump results

Hello,

Recently, we decided to upgrade the fuel pump on my father's CRX from the Aeromotive 340lph in-tank to a Walbro 400lph unit. At the same time, we upgraded turbochargers, also.

The setup consists of the following:
84.5mm sleeved B20
CP 9.5:1 pistons
Eagle H-Beams
Stock crank
OEM head gasket
ARP head studs
B16 cylinder head
UGR valvetrain
'97 ITR cams
Victor X IM
Full-Race ramhorn
Garrett GT3582R (.82 AR)
3" DP/exhaust
Precision 46mm gate
Full-Race back-door intercooler
3" charge piping

The fuel system consists of:
Walbro 400lph in-tank pump
6AN feed
Edelbrock fuel rail
Injector Dynamics 1,000cc's
Fuel Lab regulator
6AN return

The pump:

The car:

The car was tuned to 21psi on E85 from our pump across the street from the shop, and it ran out of fuel at 586whp / 410wtq.

I know the test isn't very scientific, but the highest I have ever had a set of ID1000s with a 6AN feed on the single 340lph pump (on E85) was 550whp at a 60psi base. Up top on the plot posted above, things were getting a tad lean (13.2:1 or so above 8,000 RPM), and the boost was turned back down.

Testing was done at 75psi base pressure. According to the flow chart provided by the manufacturer, the flow really takes a nose-dive at higher pressures, so I'm sure with a bigger set of injectors, and a lower base pressure, more power could be had on the ethanol.

I will be testing Q16 on this same setup within the next few weeks.

I hope this gives people some sort of example as far as what these new pumps can do!

Cheers,
- Derek

Your problem is the pump falling off. You have to run the base fuel pressure at 35-38psi and tune the injector for it. The pump has a built in by-pass at that high of pressure. Now go get it tuned again. You can do 700hp+

The injector will be out then.

I am well aware of the internal bypass.

I do not see this pump supplying 700whp worth of E85.

Yes, but base pressure is going to remain consistent, as to be able to switch back and forth without moving the regulator.

The pump should be enough for 650whp on Q16 as it sits.

D-Rob throw your ID2000's in when you tune it on Q16. I wanna see it make 700+

I too was curious, since walbro doesn't list a "88-91" specific kit. Plug and play?

Thanks for the test, i've been waiting to see results on this as well. Would you mind showing what you did to adapt the 6an lines to the stock pump setup?

Any insight on what you think this pump, 6an feed/return,1600cc inj and gas would be capable of?

The GT3582R doesn't usually do that.

As for the fitment in the tank,I have a couple pictures of the hanger.

Will post later today.

Did ID fix the issues they were having with oxygenated fuels being used with there injectors?

No, that's another reason the ID2000's won't be going in this car for the race gas tune.

unless it was the pump running out, and not the injectors.

being a larger pump, was there more electrical draw/voltage drop than with the other pumps that could have become a factor?

Also saw a walbro 450lph on some sites fully compatible with E85. Is this true? Maybe this is another option?
