Default walbro 255lph hp pump require more amps/voltage?

welp, she died today

got stranded... car was going up a hill in 3rd gear behind a box truck at about 35-40 mph... all of a sudden, shes dead, CEL on, 0 rpm, water temp gauge to C. ****. luckily, no one was behind me, and i just pulled off the road. luckily i wasn't too far from home

cranked but wouldn't turn over. hrm, no fuel or spark. since i just put the walbro 255 lph hp pump in yesterday, the pump was the first thing i thought of... sure enough, no fuel.... fuel pump = dead. was looking at the wiring, and turn the key, no noise. hrm... looked for a fuse... can't find one that says fuel pump. looked at the relays, can't find one that says fuel pump. ****. Ends up being the ECU fuse is popped. hrm.
luckily i had a spare in there, replaced, started right up.

drove it home, and here i am.

why did this fuse pop? is the pump too string for the stock wiring?
and why the ecu fuse? why not the main relay?

any ideas?

That requires no rewiring to install the pump......My guess is a short in the wiring for the pump somewhere. Maybe you pulled on the wires too hard or something. I'd get a volt meter and check that wiring.

very likely it is the fuel pump. the best thing to do is keep it a stock fuse and run a relay with an extra wire to your fuel pump. this is a trick jason hunt taught me and works extremely well. in fact cortney green uses this to get 680 whp out of his walbro 255.

if you run the relay, run a +12v wire all the way to the fuel pump and use the relay just to turn the fuel pump on. this way when the engine is running you actually get 14.4 v and way more fuel.

My walbro 255 actually did the same thing. It took a **** after 200miles. I still never figured out why. I just assumed it was a bad pump to begin with. Atleast you were close to home. I was about 45min away from home with no spare pump. That was a bad night.

Check the main relay that is located under the dash near the fusebox. That thing is WELL KNOWN Honda problem child. The main relay in my new beater died before I installed the new GSS342 in my beater. I have killed atleast 5 main relays since I started beating up Hondas back in '94. The GSS342 Walbro that I bought 3 years ago is still running strong in a friends car. When my car got smashed in a wreck last year I sold the pump to him because he was planning to join the darkside. After more than a year of usage he hasn't had any problems with it.

Yes, I still use GSS342's! After the insurance claim was settled, I threw a GSS342 into my new beater!

Sidenote: When I added my DIY ground kit to my car the engine not only started with more pep but the fuel pump also sounded angrier.

the pump itself is fine. it didn't die. somehow it just popped the fuse... it may not even be related.

what else besides the ecu itself would cause the ecu fuse under the hood to pop like that?

Geoff,

Do you mean run 2 SOURCES of POWER to the pump?

1. stock wiring
2. 12 gauge line directly from the battery to the pump, with a relay switch

Thanks,

Eric

The day after I installed my 255 it blew my alternator fuse which I guess is tied into the wiring to the pump. It hasn't done it again though thankfully. Now I keep a gang load of extra fuses
