Default walbro 255 installed but now not working

I just finished installing a walbro 255lph fuel pump into my 91 std. I dropped the tank, re-wired the pump, re-installed tank and was good to go. I drove it around today and all of a sudden the car would kind of "stutter" at a 60 mph on the highway. You would give it gas, but it would just kick in and out, like it was running out of gas.

Finally it just gave out completely and i didnt get anymore gas. When i went to start it, it just cranks over. The pump is making the whining noise, but im not getting any fuel at the fuel filter.

I took the pressure relieve bolt off and nothing came out. I then took the pump out of the tank and turned the key forward, instead of making the "solid whining" noise it makes a "stuttery whining" noise. The filter sock was also no where to be found. Would this cause the pump to not work properly or did something get sucked up in the pump and ruined it?

Any help is appreciated. I checked all fuses and main relay. It all looks good.

I'm not having problems with mine starting up even when the tank's indicator lights up (gas almost empty). You said you can't find the pump filter? Maybe that's the problem... maybe it ate up some solid thing inside the gas tank

get $10 of gas in your tank and try it out again, I can almost guarentee that there is not enough gas for the pump to pick up, even if the pump is correct for your car. Or the other alternative is that you are running too much fuel pressure, the 255's dont like over 55psi, a guy locally keeps killing pumps running 60 psi for some odd reason, should only be 40 psi if you have a gauge, but i guarentee that you dont have enough gas in your tank.

I had a 1/2 tank when these problems where occuring, so i doubt i was to low on gas. I'm thinking that maybe while the filter/sock was off it sucked up something in the tank and ruined the pump.

I was running the pump with a stock fpr on a b16. Would that cause the pump to get f-ed up?
