Vtec solenoid/oil leak theory

Vtec solenoid/oil leak theory
Well, I had this oil leak on the front passenger corner of my head. I thought it was the head gasket until I finally searched the area carefully and saw the leak was coming from my vtec solenoid. So, I took the solenoid off and sprayed it clean with brake cleaner. As I was doing this, I noticed the middle of the solenoid, where the mesh filter is, was full of super fine metal dust. It looked like thick silver metallic paint. This fine grit was also in the hole in the head where the filter matches up to it. So, I cleaned all of that out and then put a fine bead of Hondabond around the outside of the o-ring of the solenoid and then re-installed it. My motor is bone dry and no more leaking!!
I think all of this metal grit was from the port and polish job on my head and it was never fully cleaned out before I put my motor back together. I also think this gunk clogged that mesh filter so much that it made the oil in the solenoid leak past the
o-ring and cause my leaking problems. Does anyone agree with this or has anyone had any experience like this?

Good theory ... if the oil leak goes away...
Glad you found the problem .... I know you were not ready to pull that head off in the -10Deg weather John .....

Next time you get something machined be sure to clean it out very good so your not runing any kind of longevity that you may have had. Your oil temps will be lower too.
