vtec = engine cuts off ??
im working on a friends car. its a turbo h22. as soon as it hits 5200 rpms where the vtec comes on the engine shuts off...pretty much like a fuel cut. i go into hondata and turn the vtec off and it will rev all the way to redline no problem but without vtec. it doesnt make sense to me or anyone else. if vtec was malfunctioning or not working lets say because of oil pressure or anything else then it would still rev to redline, but just without vtec working...
i did some datalogs of when this happens and i dont see anything at all in the logs indicating why this is happening. the logs dont even say there was a fuel or ignition cut coming on. but thats exactly what it feels like.
i really am stumped right now and never seen anything like this before. he even took it to a respectable tuner here in missouri and he didnt know what was wrong either. i dont think its anything mechanical at all. if anyone has any clues what the problem might be please help me. thanks!

Re: vtec = engine cuts off ??
Is the car wire tucked or anything? Maybe a wire is pinched...
I would also check all the wires associated with vtec with a multi meter to make sure it has a clean uninterupted path to the ecu.

but lets say it is wiring....that just means vtec wouldnt work right? and it would still run to redline and not shut off at 5200 rpms...just like it does when i turn vtec off in hondata.
