Vortech charged B16 on 3 cylinders...
supposively made 240 to the ground on the dyno. the funny part is that the shop that did the dyno work said that car was running fine and that there was no way that engine could prodcue those numbers on 3 cylinders with just a charger.
The funniest part is that the guys friend was runnin around telling people that he made 240 to teh ground on only 2 cylinders. It was found out that it supposively was made on 3 cylinders only cause when they did a compression check this past week, a month after the dyno time, one cylinder had 0 compression.
Now the guy who owns the car is tryin to say that he will make 300 to the ground on a stock internal B16 with the vortech charger on it. As well as he thinks it will be fine and not break rods or crack a sleeve.
Anyone have any thoughts on this??

another side question, any thoughts as to how much HP to the wheels the B16 can really handle before it cracks a rod or spins a bearing or screws up a sleeve or somethin?

yeah but simple physics of the metals used will determine how much pressure they can take. Tuning a LS to 400HP wont happen cause the rods will break as well as the sleeves wont handle it. you can only push stock internals soo far. and tuning it alone is not going to make it safe when the metals can't handle the pressure or power.

Did he replace any internals at all our just slapped the vortech on? Vortech's site boasts 277 hp with a stock si and aftercooled vortech.

That could happen at 140whp... or it could NOT happen at 400whp.

Detonation breaks rods AND sleeves. True it is POSSIBLE to crack a sleeve from simple pressure loading but I would bet 99% of the cases where people claim they're tuned "perfectly" and still break a rod or sleeve, they're detonating and just don't know it. All it takes is one cylinder running leaner than the other 3; your wideband will still think you're fine. You're also MUCH more likely to snap an LS rod by over-revving it than by boosting it.

Stock cyl's can only take so much, in honda sleves case, that's usually not very much!
though the little 1.6L isuzu motors i use are nearly indestrucable in stock form.
Tuning goes a long way, but so does a nice set of aftermarket bottom end parts.
And EWWW That power curve is NASTY! Yuck!

The 277 hp claimed by Vortech is at the flywheel and not at the wheels. I've seen most people make 230-240 at the wheels which is about right with drivetrain loss.

I hate people like you who think tuning can turn iron into the strongest metal in the universe. Shut the **** up you mindless ****.
Tuning may not turn iron into the strongest metal, but it does prevent it from turning into a molten block.
BTW, for the H23 turbo guy. That turbo is a bit undersized for a 2.3L. Not saying that it won't work, just that it'll peak earlier and spool like a *****. Good luck, and keep us posted.

I think the t3/t4 turbo is about right for that H23.
I would guesstimate you make 245HP to the ground and maybe 215 torque due to the faster spool up. (9psi)
My dyno looked pretty:
****** A I HATE CLUB PHOTO. everytime I try and link a pic from them tnow, it changes into that stupid 25 cent print ****** picture. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
