voltage meters: whats it for?
im lookin at all the possible gauges a turbocharged car can get. boost, egt, oil pres, etc, i understand, but why would you need to measure the voltage? is it the voltage that your alternator is putting out, and why is that important?

Its not important at all. Its about as good as **** on a bull.

that is unless your one of those guys who have a million electrical things wired to an electrical system with a smaller alternator (IE: non EX alternator in Civic). Its kinda nice too see how much your taxing the system.

It my not be as important as all your other guages but its still something that should be monitored --like custom stated---especially it you have alot off electrical things added to your car.
I have one and i like it i think its just a piece of mind thing
I like checking guages all the time to make sure everythings in order.
I mean if your car dont start it could be a number of things but if you have a volt guage you can see right away if your getting full power from your electrical system.
Personally i guess i like to solve problems with the least troubleshooting.

i only agree with a little with that, i would be more concerned with how many amps i am drawing. I think you would need both gauges to really see how much you are taxing you electrical system!!!

I find it to be an important gauge on my car because if the voltage drops with a standalone system, it can really hurt your engine. Also it will also make stuff not run correct throughout your system. I know a guy who was having boost spikes with his evc because of low voltage and wasnt getting full boost........Mike

i thought the primary usage of a voltage meter would be to monitor the voltage of the o2 sensor, which would tell you if you are rich or lean. It's basically the same as the autometer a/f guage which just has pretty lights.
