Default To vent or not to vent my hood.

I'm thinking of altering my CRX hood with some type of vent to get rid of the heat soak in my engine bay. On a summer day my water temps rise to over 210 degrees leaving me to turn on the heat full blast to bring things down. I've tried just about everything to cool things down with little success. So far I've wired the fan to run constant, bought a Fluidyne rad/slim fan, installed a Jackson racing 180 degree thermostat , did the washer trick to raise the hood up and tried water wetter. Has anyone modified their hood with a vent or scoop? If so post up your pics to give me some ideas.

Thanks

Got pics of the front of your car? You using a full rad of half rad. Another thing you can try is just to pull the weather stripping at the cowling near the hood that will alow some more flow.

Oups missed the hood shimmed. Post a pic of the front of ur car. Possibly some rad shrouds to grab more air

In theory, a vent should work pretty good. will give the radiator some more airflow over it with the air having a place to escape, and with the (hopefully) suction effect the vent creates.

raising the hood up isn't going to work very well. the area right by the windshield is a high pressure zone because the air stagnates there. air inside the engine would not want to exit there.

a scoop might help... but my first choice would be a vent, ala invader style hoods.

One thing. Get rid of that fan and get a FAL on there i went from a 10" to the FAL and noticed a big difference. Do not have the fan running 247 not good . Sucks up power in the alternator and never alows the engine to warm properly.

I would first try draining the system. Distilled water and water wetter. Bleed the system. Fal fan on the stock Thermo switch.

On the right side of the rad if you are standing in front of the car built a striaght piece of alum to go to the front of the bumper as much as it can as to create a pressure zone in front of the rad. Cause most of the air will turbulance in the front and will find the easyiest path which is the drivers side with no rad.

I dunno if this makes sence??

How thick are the Fal fans? I don't have much room to play with.

I just was on the Fal site and their fan flows 1250 cfm while the infinate auto fan flows something like 1550 cfm. Still a good idea to change fans??? I guess the shroud draws more air out than the unshrouded infinate slim fan.

See here is the thing im tring to think of the post on another car forum. They were testingout all the fans. Sure they flow lots on a bench with there own shrouds.

The 10" fan will only flow 1550 cfm in the 10" so say like 4-6 tubs are not getting any cerculation. the fal will pull air across the whole rad. If the fan u had now was shrouded then yes it would cool better. Its like the V8 guys slapping a 12" fan on there stangs and complaining about heat soak issues. then going back to a mechaincal fan or a nice shrouded one.

I would personaly go to a Fal fan due to ur room and make one plate to draw air to the rad. like in the pics
