Valve adjustment cause car to run rough??
Hi, I post in here because this is where i find most of the 'knowledgable' people are
Anyways.. bone stock 96 gsr, I did a valve adjustment, and i noticed when i started it up it was running not as smooth, not bad but not like before. Something seemed off.
Figured it was just me, drove the car few days later i got a CEL, scan it, i got 3 codes, random missfire cyl 3, random missfire cyl 4, and random missfire.
Now.. If the valve lash is set too tight could this cause it? I just gave the car a tuneup with all OEM parts, cap/rotor/plugs/wires/fuel filter/airfilter/oil change/transmission oil change etc, and it didnt help (it needed a tuneup anyways)
Im just curious if the valves are slightly to tight if it would cause anything? Im just assuming there too tight since most hondas need valve adjustments and they arent throwing CEL's.
Thanks!

sound like the lash is too tight. where did you measure the clearance..at the valve or rocker? from what I have seen most hondas like the lash on the loose side of specs.

Yeah, chances are if it started right after the adjustment, that's the problem. Make sure you followed the instructions right. A bad valve adjustment can really hurt a motor, so I've heard over my years here at HT.

Especially for turbo applications. Also make sure you have the right firing order on the spark plugs you installed.

Why would this be a problem on turbo cars? (not doubting you, just wondering why)

Re: (CRX T-Si)
with too tight of a clearance the valves may not be closing all the way as a result letting fuel into combustion chamber at the wrong time causing a missfire. The valves can be damaged, the main source of transferring heat from a valve is through the valve seats, if its not letting the valves seat all the way heat will just build up until something gives.

Re: (CRX T-Si)
you can burn exhaust valves if they are set to tight because the valve does not stay on the seat long enough to disipate the heat from the valve and it will end up melting or burning the valve. Turbo cars are more critical because there is more heat to disipate.
