V-AFC hack or Hondata 2b? can't decide, need intelligent H-T opinions...
I just can't decide anymore.
This WAS my planned setup (on a 97 civic ex 5 spd):
Greddy SOHC turbo kit
Greddy Type 24 front-mount intercooler
HKS SS BOV w/ flange
DSM 450cc injectors
88-91 resistor box
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Apexi V-AFC
AEM cam gear
MSD plug wires w/NGK plugs (WHICH ONES to buy???)
Missing link, weld to oil pan, etc.
Thorough tune-up (duh)
ACT heavy-duty clutch w/ Clutch Masters lightened flywheel
HKS Hiper 2.5" cat-back w/test pipe
Can't remember the other stuff (if there was anything..). I was planning to do this setup, but I heard the hack runs too much timing and runs really really rich as a result. So now I'm stuck. What to do? Seriously, sometimes I think turboing is too much of a hassle, especially since I commute 40 miles round trip daily in traffic and need a better radiator (like Fluidyne) for turbo too (just tack that on to the increasingly expensive list!).
I'm only looking to run about 6-7 psi right now, but reading what people like VTC have done, with Hondata, I may be able to run more than that, which will be nice in the future. What else do you guys recommend for this setup, and what should be not bought/replaced from my list? This stuff is just too confusing...let me know, thanks fellas.

the better option is the hondata....but if you already have a afc the cheaper option is the afc hack. Either one will work.
If you are starting out and have the money, i would get a hondata, DSM 450cc injectors, and then have some hondata tuner make you a custom rom.
Although ive been using the afc hack boosting 12psi daily and loving it.

Like the last guy said. I only want to add one thing, Some people have problems with aftermarket plug wires, the stock wires are fine unless you are planning on making serious power.......

are you going to be running a catalytic converter?? If not get a secondary o2 simulator, I had a lot of problems with that until I finally bought one. Zip makes them just PM him.

Why would you need a better radiator?
I run the AFC 'hack' and it does run rich. My last set of spark plugs fouled up (not sure if it was due to the hack tho.) I run BKR7E spark plugs. They run fine. I also have MSD wires and those are good too, but I think I bought them because of their color. Yep, I am a riceboy! Unleash the beast!

How much boost can I run on stock internals w/ Hondata 2b, properly tuned, and DSM 450cc's, Wablro 255lph, and b&m fpr (already have)? 8 lbs., properly tuned? 10 lbs?

I think it's obvios that Hondata is the better option.
BUT... It's $$$$$.
You gotta make the decision, if you think it's worth it or not.
I personally think a V-AFC will do fine with that setup. Not much room ro progress, but it'll still be impessive.

... on stock internals?... i wouldnt boost past 8 psi... but thats just me... anyone else...
Although once i get back to california..ill have to back to 91 octane **** gas so ill have to turn down the boost some...although i can still boost 12psi at night..just not in the day
