Used pistons? okay to use or no?
I am in the market for some forged pistons but am a poor college kid. I was thinkin about buyin some used, but in my thread I was told that used pistons were a very bad idea... he related buying used pistons to buying a used condom. He obviously has a very strong opinion. What is everyone's opinion? Thanks!

Re: Used pistons? okay to use or no? (blackcivic44)
depends under what circumstances the pistons were taken out...ie take out of a blown motor...or taken out for cracked sleeve etc...
besides, most used pistons ive seen sell in teh 200-250 range...then u need new rings...which will run 100-120 ish...so u arent saving urself that much
if u cant pay for it to ben done right once, can u pay for it to be done twice?

If u get them u should glassbead or medi-blast them to remove carbon and soot..
Then u have to buy new rings..
Mediablasting or glassbeading isnt cheap and rings arent cheap..
you would probably spend more money refurbishing them..then u would if u just bought new pistons..
If u get em for free or dirt cheap then do it....
but if they're are over 150-200..Its not worth it..
