Upgrading Charge pipes and intake manifold, is it worth it at only 10/12psi?
I've got a couple questions, please give any input you can.
The car:
obd-1 Stock GSR
garret t3/t4oe 57trim .63
SPooling log manifold
tial 38mm wastegate
I just got a free Skunk2 gen1 intake mani.
I am also about to purchase 2.5'' all around charge pipes. I currently have the drag charge pipes which is 2'' off turbo to intercooler 2.25'' off intercooler and goes to a 2.5'' at intake manifold?
Would larger charge pipes be a good idea on only 10/12psi?
Another The question is:
would a skunk2 Intake manifold with a hondata im gasket and ITR throttle body be worth putting on a b18c pushing only 10-12psi?
Would i see any noticable gaines for spending the extra money? (around 300$)?
Thanks in advance

I think all of those upgrades are a great idea.U need to let us know how much power u r putting down at that boost level, thats the only way u would be able to tell if its worth it.
What size turbo?
either way, I say do it.Im sure it will make a little power and def. clean the engine bay up alot.

the car is currently at 8psi and has not been dyno'd yet. I estimate it to be around 240-250. on 10 psi I was thinking probably around 280-300 and 12 psi 300-320. Just estimates based off others setups with the exact same.
I'm definately upgrading the charge pipes but im iffy about the intake manifold.

All you need to do is make the necessary modification to your existing pipes and you will be good to go,at those boost levels responsiveness is what counts. Good luck

you're saying the 2.5'' pipe off the turbo will slow my spool time? the problem is my intercooler has 2.5'' inlets I currently have reducer couplers on it. I heard that creates a pressure drop which could restrict flow since the intercooler is so much larger than the hot side of the piping.

Quick related question for everyone. I have a stock GSR with a Precision SC50. I am running 2" hot-side piping because the turbo's outlet is 2" and the intercooler's inlet is 2" as well. Is there really a need to run 2.5" piping when both ends have a 2" inlet?

Thread jacker!
I think it depends on the boost levels, thats exactly what im trying to figure out.
Smaller hot side piping on low boost = more responsive turbo, good for lower boost?????
Should the diameter of your charge pipes directly relate to the lbs of boost you're running? If so how much boost would you say for 2.5''? 16+?

dont think of the size of the piping compared to psi you are running, you have to consider the speed of the air in which it is flowing through the piping, i believe 2.5" piping is good for air moving at a speed up to .44 mach, anything faster you would gain by using a larger pipe (aka 3"). I personally run 2.25" piping all around and made well over 400whp so i think 2.5" is sufficient.

right now its 2'' off the turbo. do you think thats restrictive for a 12psi 320ish hp car?

it goes from 2'' from the turbo then the intercooler has 2.5'' inlets, then into a 2.25'' piping off the cold side of the intercooler. Buddy of mine said that would create a pressure drop which would cause flow issues since its changing diameters so much. Any truth to this?

it will have a pressure drop regardless of pipe sizing, the drop can always be removed by raising the turbo pressure 1-2psi, like i said i have 2.25" piping all around and my intercooler has a 2.5" inlet and outlet, and i dont have any issues with it. The changes in size wont cause that much resistance in air flow it would be negligible
