upgraded downpipe...now car runs terrible
I have a greddy kit and upgraded to a kteller downpipe. Its a 2.5 in instead of the greddy 2in.
http://www.we-todd-did-racing....x.jpg
It doesnt fit perfect. It was hard to get the bolts to line up on the elbow and when i did, I had to line up the bolts for the cat with a screw driver and force it to bolt up (theres a section of flex in it so i dont see a problem with this)
I bolted the downpipe to the elbow as tight as possible but there still seems to be a small gap. When the car is running, i cannot feel air escaping
Now on to the problems,
positives,
-much faster spool
-lots more top end
-smoother powerband
-turbo seems much louder(if thats a good thing)
negatives
-other than top end, i feel an overall loss of power
-hits full boost almost 1000 rpms later now ~4500
-the turbo seems to make a whisling sound whenever im on the gas. This is a completely difrent sound than it made before
The car was tuned on crome and made 183/171 on 7 lbs before the upgrade. Before when i would floor it in second, the tires would break loose aroung 35-4000 rpm, it no longer does this. I expected a loss of some torque with this downpipe, but not like this. The blowoff valve still sounds the same and i cannot hear any exhaust leaks. Can a downpipe upgrade throw off a tune this bad?
I think im going to remove the downpipe and re put it back on.then go and get it re tuned and raise the boost.
anybody have any ideas?

im sorry, it sounds like its spooling faster(the turbo makes more noise than it did before), but the power isnt there...It reminds me of when i was on stock boost and the e manage before tuning

Re: (second edition)
goign from a 2" to 2.5 isnt gonna cause ANY torque loss. u will gain hp/tq.
also going from 2" to 2.5 wont cause that **** to happen. u got a boost leak somewhere

Yep I have to agree. When we switched out on my buddies car from a greddy to a custom DP, his power gains were nothing short of amazing because a stock B16 with an out of the box greddy feels like crap (to me)
Once we switched it over, his car felt similar to mine (on low boost) and that was a nice improvement considering before it felt like a GSR NA.

Don't be: the noob did something wrong that has nothing to do with the downpipe.

listen jagbag, im not an idiot. I know how to bolt up a pipe with 5 bolt holes, granted it didnt line up for **** and the flanges are super oversized. Im going to redo it and well see how it goes. So dont sweat it,alright

No it would not, an exhaust leak post turbo had nothing to do with what your feeling right now. The extra noise you are hearing from the turbo is it spinning much faster to keep up with the boost leaking out of the charge pipes. The later spool is also a result of the boost leak. The torque gains will be exponentialy greater; hell I'll go out on a limb and say you'll be breaking 3rd gear loose now depending on your tires.

to the original poster, i'm putting out a little more power than you but basically the same setup. i'm going to upgrade my greddy downpipe as well, i'll respond to this thread as soon as i do. what does the rest of your exhaust consist of?
