Uh Oh.. like I don't have enough issues!!!
Just last night, after a 'spirited' session of driving @ 10psi, I stopped in a gas station because I noticed my headlight out (stupid loose wires!) so I wanted to get my light working again when I popped the hood and noticed I had alot of liquid in a spray patter all over my intake piping on the passenger side of my car
Touch the liquid.. yep that's coolant! I look all over the car and I don't see any leaks of dripping, the only thing I could think of it that it shot either out of the cap or the resorvoir. I opend the resorvoir up and it was up the the very top, I went around to look at my gauge and sure enough, it was creeping up to the H
Well I had this problem before, whenever I'd boost 10psi I'd start overheating when sitting still, I thought it was a sticky thermo and changed it a few weeks ago, but alas.. it's back! Any new ideas? Could the cap not be maintaining pressure and letting air get in the system? For some reason the temp goes down if I give the car some gas while sitting still, and if I start driving it'll drop to normal in no time.. any suggestions?

Wow, had a friend's car that did the EXACT same thing, except he didn't have boost. Its your water pump. a couple impellers are gone, and only a few are left, those few can't move the system fast enough, thus when you give the car throttle, it moves the coolant faster cause the timing belt moves the water pump quicker. Sounds pretty logical to me....how many miles are on your car? are you on the east coast? do you use an anti-rust aditive in the cooling system?

Damn.. sounds logical I guess being that it does have 110k miles on the stock water pump. Yea I'm on the east coast (Miami), but we don't have rust issues down here.

Mine does this every couple of days only because I have a leaky radiator. When the water level is low it will start overheating, I give it gas and the water flows again cooling the engine down. Check for small cracks in your hoses.

sounds liek symptons of the water pump... it all makes sense... you give it a little gas the waterpump spins more, there flowing the coolant... i think its time to change the water pump and the timingbelt while your at it.

I once had a crack in my radiator hose. The only time it would leak was when it was under intense pressure (ie boosted driving) and water would go missing. Baffled me for a long time till I found the problem.

sounds like a blown headgasket if your reservoir is overflowing under boost...

This may be a dumb question, but is your radiator fan working? If it's not turning on, you'll overheat at a standstill.

My car would displace coolant under boost, and if i let it go unchecked for long enough, it would overheat. My car blew no smoke whatsoever, it merely filled the reservoir if I boosted, and I would just pour that coolant back intot he radiator when it was cool. I've just swapped headgaskets, but I'm waiting on a header stud and some other things to come in before I throw the turbo, manifold, and dp back on.

Hrm...how much "overflow" coolant is normal? Mine was filled to a hair above the max line before the car was boosted and now it displaces about 1/2" above that...I think I probably just have a bit too much coolant, and I'm boosting about 9psi (against my will. damn MBC :hammer heh

These are viable explanations to some degree but I think its simpler though a leaky heater hose somewhere or a leaky radiator even. Ive had both happen a lot more times than a headgasket or water pump. Youre going to have to run some pressure through there or do some spirited driving at full operating temp and then observe for leaks.
