Default Type S Bov adjustment

I have a type s bov (Duh )When I put it on and ran the car it seemd a bit loose so i tightened it up, but It sounds like I may have tightened it a little too much now. I loosened up the adjustment nut on top and rather then the valve rising up, it just stayed where it was and the nut just comes off and makes no difference. Do I need to remove it and open it up to adjust it?

Ok I just found out that you need to adjust the hex on the top of the bolt rather then the nut. How tight should it be set? should the valve be closed at idle?

I have mine adjusted as far out as possible without actually having the stud fall out of the housing.., the valve most probably won't close 100% at idle, nature of the beast. Also make sure you take advantage of the boost assist feature (the bottom nipple) connecting boost to that port and boost/vacuum to the top will increase delta-P (pressure differential), which will cause the valve to react faster.

Greddy recommends adjusting the bov to be closed at idle. Hooking to a more direct vacuum source instead of T'ing will help it from surging.

Contrary to popular honda-tech info, the so called "boost assist" feature is not what
you want to do. The bottom port is not sealed. Just blow in it, it leaks a ton of air.
I have heard of some of the DSM guys disassembling the valve, and wrapping the
bottom "cylinder" with teflon tape to seal it, but that still does not account for the
piston in the middle. Thats not sealed either.

The boost assist is exactly that, take the valve apart and you'll easily see why it works.

Here's a great thread with good pictures of the boost assist circuit

Bottom line is it leaks. A lot. Probably why greddy has always instructed people to leave
it vent to atmosphere. Its not sealed at all.

dude, the leakage is minor, so it's really up to the individual to leave the vent open, or put boost on the port to increase delta-P.

For most people, switching to a stronger or more direct vacuum signal is all thats
needed. If you do want or need to set it up for "boost assist", there is a check valve
you need so it doesnt leak under pressure. This way, boost is allowed to reach the
bottom diaphram, but only after you close the throttle and create vacuum in the
manifold.
