Default Type R turbo : GT28RS Vs 3071R

i know this sort of quetsion has been asked a million times and i have tryed to figure it out but which is better for the type R in terms of drivabiltiy. i currently have the GT28RS with a .86 exhaust housing installed on my type R and i love it. It holds boost all the way to 8350rpm and makes good power, but many people have told me to upgrade to this turbo. Are they correct in saying this? should i bother with it or just stick to what i already have?

What rpm are you getting full boost? How much psi(bar) are you running? How much whp?

Really, the Gt2871 had a better powerband and use w/ the ITR cams than the GT3071 from my experience..

it is currently making 198Kw @ the wheels which translates to about 266whp @ 8psi.

Why are you so keen to listen to others? Do they even have Turbo Hondas?

If your happy stay happy, no point changing **** for the sake of it. GT28RS is awesome for the street.

i would just leave the GT28rs....its a great turbo. you can turn up the boost to make more power and you will be happy.

the 3071 is nice but will probably be a little more laggy and not quite as responsive.

keep the GT28RS. If you go to a bigger turbo and your car is a street car you will regret it.

I will personaly run this turbo this year and I was running something bigger last summer.

Keep in mind that more than 300whp on a street car is really not necessary.

stick with the gt28rs, up the boost, and get it tuned. i am guessing you like how responsive that turbo is. while the 3071 is responsive, its not even close to the 28rs. if you really want more power, but like the response, maybe you could upgrade to a 2871r. it won't be quite as responsive as the 28rs, but will be more responsive than the 3071.

i just realized i said response like 10 times. if your not after good turbo response, disregard my post.

good luck

lol I drove my car once with 335whp when I was on my racing fuel map at 20 psi at it was just too fast. I drove many race cars on tracks, karting, Formula Ford, road race etc and I know the limit of all cars I drive. I must admit that even at ''only'' 300whp my car scares me sometimes... its not that im a ***** its just that I know that when im not feeling safe I let the throttle off and keep it safe for my passengers or everybody else on the street. All the people that have been involved in a speed accident with their modified or even stock car dont know their limits and im sure that they were scared just before the accident....

yeah but on the otherhand, if you run such a responsive turbo with even more boost, wont you just break traction and smoke the tires? if you are gonna run more boost, wouldnt it make sense to have a bit more laggy turbo to avoid instant spool and smoking the tires? I guess that could also be controlled with a WG and BC, but just throwing that out there.

If it works for you, keep what you got. I only mentioned the GT2871RS as an upgrade as opposed to the GT3071. The "FUN" factor stays with the car.

I noticed in your first post you stated you have the GT28RS with a .86 a/r turbine...if I'm right...this is using the standard T28 exhaust housing. If you're looking for a little more top end, check out the .82 T3 drop in housing from ATP. You'll sacrifice a little low-end but gain it back up top. I really enjoy mine.

I do hear what you're saying...but daily driving...there really is no need to be flooring the throttle every opprotunity you get. Just takes a little getting used to.

edit: Just remembered that this came in really useful when I was choosing on a turbo for my setup, as I was in your same exact position.
