I thought the ITR/GSR/B16 trannies couldn't utilize the LS FD?

big difference in the final drive and the 5th gear
final drive is what all the individual gears connect to. it is equivalent to the axle ratio on RWD cars.
ls 5th = 0.714
usdm itr 5th = 0.848
jdm 98+ itr / usdm gsr = 0.787
ls final drive = 4.2666
gsr/b16/usdm itr/pre98 jdm itr = 4.4
jdm itr 98+ = 4.785
ls 5th gear is worht it if you're installing other stuff, such as a LSD, and/or final drive. Or replacing bearings in the tranny.
pulling the tranny, cracking it open, JUST to replace the 5th gear = waste of time. Better to spend that 7-8 hours of work to work overtime one week at work. Cause that will give you less headaches and give you more money than you'll save in gas.
