Got the 13129 Aeromotive today. Not quite as fussy a process as I thought it'd be. Also got my hose and fittings. Waiting for my regulator fittings and FedEx should be bringing those this evening. Now I've gotta figure a mounting spot and how I want to run it. More fun!

Very happy this worked out for you, nothing like a factory fit! Progress is looking great.

Thanks! The fittings for the regulator were SUPPOSED to be here today but Jegs screwed up and sent me the wrong part. Was supposesuppose the 6an regulator kit, they sent me an 8an fuel pump adapter.. Dafuq?! Called them up and they're sending me the right part and refunding for the screwup.

Finally some progress! Rain has been killing the last couple days and finally, the swamp has cleared out enough to get this thing pulled. Should still be good on my machine shop appt. I'll have rods and **** out before too long. To the left of my passenger mirror here, you'll see my spare block. That one will be getting the full CSS treatment around tax time. To the other side, you'll see my son-in-law's POS impala SS. I hope my EG doesn't get any Chevy diseases being parked this close..

When things get discolored like that it’s a sign getting very hot, now why only the top of it’s doing that is odd unless it’s just from the heat off the piston. Might what to consult with the machine shop to make sure it’s still good. Did all the rods look like that or just the one? What pistons was connected?

I had wrist pin walk in 3 cylinders. 2 rods look like this, I also had to REALLY work the pin out of those rods. I had to clamp it with some vice grips to twist it out, so it makes sense. Also on those that were walking, the rod bearings took a beating, so I'll need a new set for sure.

‘hopefully the rods aren’t trash, I had to throw one out once for a similar case , same goes for the pistons

Well.. I got 2 different prognoses from 2 different shops. One say I should probably replace, 1 says they can be reconditioned. Sigh.. I need a beer..

‘there can always be some distortion of the rod from the heat it got..... it’s always a gamble by not replacing IMO

I broke the news to the wife I may need new rods and here I am able to post about it. I expected a falcon punch to the throat but she says, ok, whatever it needs.. Hmmm.. Wonder how long she's been seeing the milkman?! Lol

Haha! I give him hell about it all the time. I'm encouraging him to make it go zoom. It's got an LT1 in it now, just needs a little more motivation..

Bummer about the rods. Can you replace just the two, or do you have to buy a whole set?

I'm sure if I ordered directly from Skunk2, I could get 2. These were the Alpha Lites, I've already priced a set of the regular Alphas at 343 shipped.

Depends. I got this one from a junkyard for 275 with a 12 month warranty. Rebuilt, broke, rebuilding again. Lol

Block, rods, and pistons dropped off at the machine shop. Guy took one look at the rods and he painted the picture of what happened. I hadn't even given him any story yet as to what happened. He nailed it exactly. He said he can recondition them, no problem. Said there didn't seem to be any distortion other than to the bushing. He said they did get a little hot, but nowhere near hot enough to cause concern.
This fella is somebody I have confidence in knowing what he's doing. That being said.. Block bore to 76, decked, honed, rods reconditioned: 250 bucks. I asked about some head work and he quoted the same price for a 3 angle valve grind and assembly. Valves, seats, assemble to bolt on ready. 250..
What's my benefit from that valve job? I know the price says do it, but if it's really not much benefit, I'll pass.

You won't "Gain" anything from it. Just a great seal valve to seat. Worth it at that price.. Tell him to use Viton seals..

Hand lapping could almost achieve the same result, but he can check for a bent stem, faulty valve seat and guide all while he is in there.. Worth it.

my head is built already. Stock guides, retainers, keepers, comp springs, supertech viton seals, ferrea 6000 valves.
I was only concerned about the valves not seating properly after I had them lapped in. I did the ol water in the port trick and there was some leakage. It wasn't running out quickly and probably within spec, but I was expecting to see nothing leak at all. I would imagine that after running, what little bit of run out there is, will probably seal on its own.
