Turbonetics Wastegate bumps SPOON hood

Does anyone have a remedy for the Turbonetics Deltagate's height on DRAG Gen3 manifold on an EG B18C? I replaced the diaphram bolt/nut with a flush-mounted set screw and also slightly sanded the wastegate down, but there is still zero tolerance. I have thought about a Tial wastegate, but they look even higher. I've had this problem for 2 years. Any suggestions?

just get some motor mount inserts - that will keep it from hitting...

Already have the inserts, just wanted things to stay "nice".

Even though I've already bought a Drag III kit for my R, I'm still getting together all the "right" pieces before I go ahead and install it. Thanks for all the hints and help so far. ed

Now if I could only decide whether to put it on before or after my next emissions test (then there's the issue of whether or not to replace the pistons right away or ....). http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

Well I used 3 of these $15 earls fittings from http://www.anplumbing.com: 90 degree 1/8" NPT to 1/4" barbed vacuum connectors. I used one for the compressor and 2 for the wastegate. Expensive but they work pretty darn good.

And yes I know the tial is not tapped at 1/8" NPT but it is pretty close and they seal good enough for me.

You can either get the fitting Dustin recommended or the optional DRAG 90 degree elbow which turns the Tial wastegate on its side.

Which direction does it turn it? I am trying to envision where the dump tube would run...

Re: Turbonetics Wastegate bumps SPOON hood (dustin)

It would turn it toward the driver side. The dump tube has to be modified if used with the elbow.

correct me if im wrong but ive seen the elbow before, and doesnt it dump right onto the turbo manifold? one of my buddy's has the elbow so he can run the HKS wastegate and it dumps right over the turbo manifold. but like i said correct me if im wrong

Re: Turbonetics Wastegate bumps SPOON hood (BoostinDC2)

No, the wastegate doesn't dump onto the manifold. If you're not using a dump tube, it dumps right onto your A/C compressor. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmilep.gif

hey guys, id like to bring this topic back up, so dustin maybe you could chirp in some more about those parts you got, part #s? anything?

Re: Turbonetics Wastegate bumps SPOON hood (NYb16)

they are on anplumbing.com

90 degree 1/8" NPT to 1/4" barbed vacuum hose connector. 1/8" NPT is not the correct size for the threads on the tial (it is some crazy weird size) but you can turn them about 3 turns and get a good seal.

I also bought the tial wastegate relocator tube from ben, I have it here. It relocates the wastegate on its side right below the dipstick. Exhaust dumps directly down.

It must suck to have a spoon hood and the wastegate hitting it. I feel sorry for you. Take it to a machine shop and let them deal with the problem. If they mess anything up then they have to replace it. You pay them, they deal with the hassle, just a suggestion.

Re: Turbonetics Wastegate bumps SPOON hood (kulsvea)

Rev Hard kits come with a 90 degree elbow, so don't have to worry about the hood just got to worry about the AC lines, but I customed made a dump tube.

well.. I got to zits on my stock hood http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif Oh well thank God its not a show car!! The first hood was out of plain stupidity, it looked like it was going to fit (even though i kept reading it wasn't)..I guess I thought my car would be an exception, but obviously it wasn't. I have to slam my hood to close it, even before the turbo. Okay so after the first DING.. I put the 90 elbow and bolted on the tial wastegate and then had the dump tube rewelded.. Well.. it didn't ding the first few times I slammed the hood but it finally made a little nipple. It's not as pronounced as the first one though. what's funny is that they are about 6'' apart side by side. Oh.. and I do have inserts if that is what you are thinking. No biggy.

What is wrong with that? Possibly he needed a new hood and decided to get something that would give him some weight loss and make his car look better.
