I appreciate that, after I fired it up today my oil pressure was a solid 85psi under throttle

thanks AZ. Sounds like it has good compression so far, I’ll do a 3rd heat cycle tomorrow and then do a compression test. I’m thrilled right now to hear it fire up!

I Was able to finish all the lines and hoses and go through a few heat cycles over the past few days and today I took it out for a 30-40 mile drive. I’m proud to say that it’s all still together lol.... for now anyway. I was a little nervous about oil pressure considering I ported out / modified my oil pump and we used bigger tolerances on the main bearings than most people are used to using, but I’m very pleased with the car holding around 35psi as it goes above 1000rpms and 68psi at 2000rpms and close to 80 psi by 4000rpms. (Full temp). I’ll do my first oil change tomorrow and hope to start some tuning within the next two weeks.

What oil weight are you using? 15w40 rotella?

break in is normal 10w-30 Valvoline, then I’m switching over to Valvoline VR1

I see. I was way off. Lol! The VR1 looks good and has my attention. I'm concerned a tad about my main clearances as well and wondering how thick is too thick? They have 20w50 turbo approved oil. Would that be a bit much?

I’ve been using Brad Penn 20-50.

‘I’m sure a little thicker oil would be fine, but the oil pressure reading will tell all. I made sure to shim my pump to increase the pressure to make up for the extra bearing clearance. I know the weight that people use will very depending of the environment you live in, 10w-30 is a very universal oil that’s very common in central US where we have all 4 seasons

‘that’s a pretty heavy oil, but I guess you live in a very hot area. That’s close to what I use in my two 7.4 liter marine motors

Yeah I shimmed and ported my oil pump

I'm going to want to add an oil pressure gauge now to keep an eye on things for a bit anyways.
Our weather is crappy in the summer and spring, not too bad in the fall and winter can get pretty nippy.

Yes but I use that oil year around, the oil also has a zinc additive which is good on cam wear especially when using a bigger cam. Also just think about how hot the oil gets when racing, a light weight oil with warm weather and multiple drag passes will turn into water.

Yes, that first start is always so exciting! Hopefully everything stays smooth with your oiling issue!

‘so far so good! Like AZ said, I’ll be switching over to a high zync oil pretty soon, but for now I’m just going to be working out any bugs on a basic tune then start swapping over to the large injectors and 4 bar map sensor before hitting the dyno

Was able to get the car about for a while this evening and it was the first time I’ve been able to engage vtec, this is where my problem came in.....as soon as vtec tries to engage the car starts to stutter almost like there is no fuel and the car nose dives. My A/F is fine going into vtec and It don’t matter which gear I’m in, it had the same results. I have the vtec engagement at 4700 and with old cams that worked perfectly but with the Skunk2 pro1 cams I’m sure that won’t work, but I’m not sure that’s what’s caused the issue or not. Unless someone else has had this issue I guess I’ll raise the vtec up or disconnect it and see if the problem is with rpm levels or the actual vtec

Is it actually stuttering like a fuel or boost cut or does it just feel like, flat? Like all power just goes to pot?

‘feels like boost cut, I’ve not been above 4-5 psi yet, it pretty much shuts things down. I’ve not changed anything in my program from when I pulled the motor, I know I’ll need to to retune the car, but I wouldn’t think things would be that far off to cause something like this
