Default Turbo, Turbo, Turbo, EXPERTS wanted!

Well I have finally started breaking in my engine after the rebuild. It is an ITR engine with JE 9.8:1 cr pistons, Eagle rods, SS .5mm+ valves, and welded in blockguard. All new seals, bearings and gaskets. My plan is to build a mid 11s car for the street and the time frame is this winter. What I would like is to get some help from the experts on this board with sizing the trubo, as well as the fuel system. Curently I am runing a walbro 255 pump and I am planning on using the new Hondata system for tunning.

Thanks for any help.

I would go with 720cc injectors, use your walbro pump. That should cover you into the mid 400hp range, which is plenty enough for 11's

Thank you for your reply. I was actually hoping that you would relply. I have been reading some of your posts and comments and I appriciate your knowledge and experience.

If you don't mind I would like to pick your brain with some questions that I have.

I remember you had a post where you werer describing the difference between the GT series turbos and the 60-1. Did you get a chance to experiment with the GT turbo on your car? I would be intereted to hear your opinions on the advantages of the GT turbo. Also what trim should I be looking into from my setup?

Thank you for your help.

I think you should buy the spearco intercooler for sale in this forum! I would agree with vapor trail plus get a 1:1 fpr to go with your fuel setup.

You might want to sleeve your block before you shoot for 400 HP range, block guard wont due. Also, get an inline fuel pump, your in-tank pump won't supply enough fuel. You will have to get a standalone, hondata s200 is great, just ordered one myself. Also if you plan on getting some traction you will want at least some radials and a LSD, and while you have the tranny out, a stage 5 clutch and some stronger axles. As said before, some 720cc injectors and i suggest an aftermarket intake mani, its good for 10+ whp w/ turbo. Some kinda T4 turbo will have alil lag but will get you through the 1/4 in those times.

You think a stage 5 clutch is nessecary for 400hp? He wants this to be a daily driver too.

From my previous research you don't really need to sleeve your block to run 400whp safely. With proper tunning anything is possible. In Japan Top Fuel was running 18psi on stock internals including stock pistons w/ thicker head gasket to lower cr. Luckily I have an amazing tuner just minutes from where I live. Yes I am going with the s200 system as well so tuning should be quite easy. On the other note I have a ACT pressure plate with 4 puck copper unsprung disk and that should be good for up to 320 torque. And as I stated it is an ITR swap so I do have a LSD tranny. I am looking into axels as we speak, but I really don't thing axels will be a problem on a street car. Once I put some slicks maybe than. What I am getting at is that the engine part of the build up I have pretty much figured out. The only thing that I really need information is the fueling as well as the turbo sizing. Since this will be a weekend/night car for me and it will not be my daily get to work transportation I am willing to sacafice some comfort for performance, but it has to be a mid 11 sec STREET CAR. That is my goal.

So if anyone has any suggestions as to the turbo sizing etc. and some real documented and tested setups for the fuel system please help me out.

Thank you for your replyes.

I use an aeromotive 1:1. IT means for every one psi of boost your fuel pressure is increased by 1 psi..

I think I have about the same thing you are after.

9.0:1 CR
JE pistons
Sleeved block
Eagle rods
I use a 60-1 turbo from Innovative turbo systems with a T3 ex side, a.63 a/r ex, .70 a/r in, stage IV turbine wheel, big shaft
MPRD manifold
HKS Wastegate
BBK(walboro) 255lph in-tank
720CC injectors
AEM universal1:1 regulator
(Currently upgrading to -6 lines although I haven't had a problem withfuel)
AEM EMS
ACT Xtreme PP w/ perf street disc
CM flywheel
MPRD

I would strongly recommend the 60-1, it kicks really hard and makes 6psi by 4500rpm and 14psi by 5000rpm. The top-end is incredible. I have only dyno'd the car on pump gas to this point, I'll be fixing that in two weeks.
It pulled 396whp @ 14psi with very conservative EGT's 1150's.
I use the big Apex/XS core and 2.5" piping.

I don't know what other info would be helpful, but glad to share.
Time in Sig.

Good luck

Send us some results when you're done!

Top Fuel uses OS Giken made 9:1 pistons and con rods on their tunes that go past 320whp. The Walbro GSS342 will be just fine for 400whp Hondas as long as you are using a 1:1 fpr.

GT30 turbo's are based off of 60-1 compressor non-bb setups.

Thanks a lot for all the info that is exactly what I was looking for. The turbo you are running is that a BB turob or just a regular one? Also did you run the 12.09 on a street slick or race slick tires??

Thanks nice setup.

Thanks,

It is a non-bb big shaft, and the 12.09 was on slicks.

A friend of mine with the same turbo made 571WHP @ 22psi on 118 octane. He ran a 10.22 @ 140 in an 1800lb car the other day. Remember we are at 5000ft up here.

Best of luck to you

Thanks for the great info, you really got me excited now.

Did you also use 118 octane gas to tune your car?

Thanks,

The GT3040 turbos are great. They use a T04s compressor housing, and a choice of wheels 52 and 56 trim. We tested a GT3040 52 trim .82a/r on my good friend's SR20DET. At 22psi, he extracted 409hp and 332 tq on pump gas! Now, that doesn't seem like a lot, but the torque is there. Remember, he doesn't rev to 8k like we do. So, on a 2 liter GSR motor (like the one I have being built), simple math can give us an idea as to how much hp I can expect, assuming I generate the same torque that my friend did on his SR, which is not out of the question.

TQ * rpm / 5250 = HP
332 * 8000 / 5250 = 505hp

Granted, everyone's setups are going to be a little different, but this is the best estimation I can give you. The GT turbos are great, very durable, but they are expensive. A good alternative is the 60-1.

60-1 hummmm. maybe a dumb question here but can a regular garret T04e/T3 be converted to a 60-1?

yes, but you wont retain much of the turbo. comp housing and wheels have to be changed. Might be easier for you to buy a complete turbo, then sell your turbo

Thank you for the info on the GT series turbos. You mentioned in your post about the .82a/r, but was that air or ex. side? And what was the other a/r.

I know you were getting a good deal on the GT turbos can you still get the same deal? I would be interested.

Thanks,

Rafal
