Default Turbo took a Crap... In the Market for A new Turbo

Hey whats going on. Today my Holset H1C turbo took a crap. Im looking for a new turbo. My horsepower goal is to make about 550. I am looking at a few of the turbonetics turbos and I am also looking at the Precision turbos. Its a lot of Precisions to choose from. I do want to keep the car streetable. Can anyone recommend a good turbo for that horsepower goal? and my budget is between 750-850 dollars.

http://www.pureturbos.com/store/

they can make you pretty much anything you want for about your price.

they are also www.usedturbos.net

if you're interested in remanu turbos, check out this page http://usedturbos.net/Catalog/600-800HP.html

great prices, and all come with a 1 year warranty. I bought one a year ago and had no issue, and I have another on its way to me now. good luck!

Thanks Travis that site is amazing!! B and B the Holset is sticking and not really spinning. I figured Id go ahead and change the turbo out so I can squeeze some more power out of my setup. And my setup includes

Gsr Block bored .20 over. 81.5MM Supertech pistons. LS Rods and LS crank. ACL race bearings. ARP headstuds and rod bolts. The block is stock sleeves. Stock B16 head with GSR cams. Comp Stage 4 clutch. AEM fuel rail. PTE 1000cc injectors. Lovefab ramhorn manifold. And the Holset turbo.

Nah not stock LS rods Eagle LS rods sorry forgot to mention that. How long did it take for them to ship your turbo? And I looked at most of the turbos, they seem like real legit turbos. How reputable are they?

They are mainly known for rebuilding diesel turbos

The issues with journal bearing precisions failing is that they use a steel thrust bearing retainer instead of brass... they did this for strength not realizing the steel collar doesn't dissipate heat from the thrust bearing like a brass collar does, leading to catastrophic turbo failure including wheel and housing damage

The turbo I bought was great and used it for awhile. I sold it last week. I sold it so I could upgrade to a .63 ar turbine housing.

A buddy of mine even recommended them to me when I already knew of them. They are pretty sweet. I'm not happy with my purchase this time. Gave them my CC thursday, didn't ship out until tuesday, was probably because I asked for a different turbine housing instead of the one they listed which is understandable. The turbo I got from them, the oil seal went bad, I'm guessing because I didn't let the turbo cool before shutting the car off, but they were nice enough to replace the turbo for me (yay for 1 year warranty)

go with them. As you can tell, I didn't think twice when purchasing my second turbo from them.

Ive never came across an event like this. Do you have any articles/resources of failures like this?

edit : just googled it, and its true. I just emailed them and asked what kind of thrust bearings they use.

Well good things it has a 1 year warranty.

I have an article with pictures I've been meaning to post. I never knew they (precision) used steel thrust bearing retainers. After all of the failures it makes sense now. All this time precision would scream oil contaminants when it was really a design flaw on their end.

Could one buy a brass thrust bearing and install it themselves, or would a turbo shop need to do it, and do you know the cost of this by chance? I know its a shot in a dark, but hell you may know.

Thanks for the info bud

I'll have to look at the retainer and go from there. No one but precision knows what goes into their turbos since they lost their supply contract with Garrett by remachining their wheels causing mass failures and lying about it and then they went to turbonetics for parts and now supposedly make their own parts. So single units could be a hodgepodge of whatever was around to fit that particular turbo

Contact turbo lab. I know they have a brass upgrade for precision turbos iirc
