Turbo Suggestions?

So I am putting a list together to start building a turbo setup for a 98 LS motor. Right now im thinking of using the SC32 from Precision but im looking for other options aswell. The car will be daily driven and im looking to run5-7psi daily and 10psi max most likely.

Here is a list so far of the more major components in the system:
-RevHard Turbo Manifold (RHC-18BAC)
-Precision 350hp Intercooler
-Turbosmart WasteGate FG-WGATE-35
-Turbosmart Blow-off Valve (FG-BOV-003DP)
-Turbosmart Boost Controller (FG-GBCV-IC)
-Hondata s200b with 3-stage Rev limit and boost
-440CC injectors
-NGK plugs (6 or 7 heat range?)

What do you guys think this would be good for as far as power and reliability? Im thinking of using a golden eagle block guard, vacuum manifold, fuel rail and cam gears aswell.

B18 CYA 08-13-2004 03:28 PM

how much hp are you aiming for?

Touge Tuning 08-13-2004 03:36 PM

Im looking for about 240 to the wheels, i want alot of torque but I would probably have to make the engine a 2.0L and do alot of internal work.

I want to have very little turbo lag aswell which is why im looking at a small turbo. I am looking for advice as far as compressor trim, a/r etc.

Touge Tuning 08-13-2004 08:54 PM

Any help?

Touge Tuning 08-13-2004 09:17 PM

Thanks for the advice, I will take that off my list and ill talk to the local shop and see how much they will sleeve the block for. It's not something I think I need to do but something I would like to do for peace of mind.

Any advice as far as the actual turbo is concerned? Do you think 200 ft/lb of torque is achievable with that setup?

Touge Tuning 08-14-2004 10:37 AM

Does anyone know the difference between these 2 manifolds from RevHard?

RHC-18BAC
RHC-18BDR

Thanks

i say super 60 or T360 .48 a/r so you can capture more powerband for 240whp. you don't really need to rebuild for that much hp util it breaks..

Touge Tuning 08-14-2004 05:00 PM

Where can I find the "super 60" online? So basically a T3/60 with a .48ar would be a good street turbo to have? What do you think of the ones from Full-race?

Touge Tuning 08-14-2004 07:51 PM

If im aiming for between 220-300whp would it be worth it to go with the Rev Manifold or get an equal length from a place like 1fab?

Also would an SC61 be better for a street setup with a .48 a/r over an SC 34 ?

By the time you buy the block guard, have it welded in,then have it machined bored honed resurfaced.Youve spent around $400 golden eagle will sleeve your block for $700 if you drop it off.Other wise its $60 to ship it each way.I suggest you either get it sleeved or dont run one at all.Just tapping in the block guard your taking a big chance in distorting the cylinder walls and running the risk of upping the temps up top.Even though its the best blockguard on the market it still empedes flow. Can you detonation.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Sleeving would be a overkill for 250-300hp. Granted it will give you piece of mind and give you room for the future, but there are plenty of people pushing that amount of power on stock sleeves. But if you can afford it go for it.

Here is a thread on LS setups.

i would say get the precision gt32e, it reached full boost(8lbs.) at 3600rpm on a gsr and make 284whp if i remember correctly, great power bandtoo. if i can find it, i will post up the dyno charts

Re: (wantboost)

eddyboy - thanks for the link on the thread, alot of nice LS setups in there although the power of the setups ranges from like 200-340whp. I really am interested in the setups that are pushing around 200+ft./lb of torque.

What are the a/r and trim specs on the GT32e, they dont list em on precisions site. How much hp do you think that turbo would make at say 7 psi with a stock LS with good conservative tuning. What do you think of this turbo from Full-Race http://full-race.com/store/pro...id=62. I figure with a low a/r it will spool up fairly quickly and can flow 61 lb/min. What woudl be the advantage and disadvantages of that turbo?

Would it be best to get a DP fabricated by somewhere like onefab or do would most exhaust shops be able to fab up a full turbo back exhaust system. Also I have seen people talk about an e-cutout, what exactly is it and what does it do?

Trak_Day 08-15-2004 10:59 AM

I like the Precision GT32e for something like this. Should pull strong through the gears and would be much more fun than an SC61 with these power goals. the sc61 is simply too big for this, well not too big but I think a GT32e would be more enjoyable

Touge Tuning 08-15-2004 12:08 PM

Re: (Trak_Day)

What are some turbos similar to the GT32e as far as specs ? Do you think the power would fall off on the top end with this turbo or would this pull pretty well from the time it spools to almost redline? Would a equal length manifold be beneficial for a street setup like this or should I stick with the RevHard cast manifold?

Touge Tuning 08-15-2004 02:46 PM

So with a B18B, RevHard Manifold, GT32e turbo, precision 350hp IC with the turbo pushing around 7psi what do you think it would put down at the wheels with good tuning?

The RHC-18BDR - Is the direct replacement for the DRAG manifold, it looks very similar with the wastegate port placement, but ported to eliminate boost creep.

As for the GT32E. I love the characteristics of it, but mainly for the VTEC cousins. I've setup maybe 15 cars with that wonderful turbo. From my experience, I've found that the turbo needs to be slightly smaller for maximum efficiency. I LOVE the GT32E. But not for THAT application

Touge Tuning 08-17-2004 10:37 AM

There is like a $30 difference between the two manifolds, which one is "better"? I will be paying aroudn $650CDN for the manifold but im wondering if I should just get one made? Is there a custom fabbed manifold that you would choose over the RevHard that is a/c compatible?

Touge Tuning 08-17-2004 03:01 PM

Do you think the Rev manifold is worth it or should I get a log style manifold from like BMC and save myself like $200?
