Turbo spinning hard
I have an older turbo off an Volvo. I just finally got the turbo exhaust housing free from the center section, so i could clock it. well, sonce it broke free, the turbine wheels started to spin pretty hard.
they are in no way locked up, but are rubbing against something. From just tooking it kinda looks like the cone shaped thing under the exhaust wheel. I assumed it got presssed down by the exhaust housung, so i re-bolted the housing back up, and nothing, still spinnig hard. It kinda seems like there is some rust of something behind the cone thingy, houlding it out.
Is there any way to get to off? from what i can see i would have to take both wheels off, which i don't think would be a good idea, since i am not going for a rebuild. thanks for any help

Re: Turbo spinning hard (Whig-it)
Sounds like carbon buildup, especially if it's coming from the turbine side. You can try soaking it with carb cleaner to try and clean it off. Otherwise, sell it and get a better turbo.
