Default turbo SOHC stock internals.. standalone worth it?

if I go hondata instead of vafc for my sohc turbo, I know it'll be better, but with my limitation from stock internals, will it be worth my time to invest in a hondata system with boost option over a vafc, basically will I be able to get more out of hondata @ 10 lbs for the difference in prices. I'll be using a small trim t3 or t25.. I'm 17 so I'm going for the most cost effective method. Thanks

The vafc only allows for fuel changes. The changes that can be made to the fuel are over larger rpm ranges than what the hondata can make changes. You not only get better gas mileage off boost with hondata, but you get a better overall fuel map with the hondata than the vafc.

The hondata also alters timing in the maps. Timing is just as critical as the fuel. In order to run 10psi on stock internals, you'll need to retard the timing. You either need to retard the timing at the distributor if you are using the vafc, or in the ecu program as with the hondata. With the latter method you get poor off boost drivability, as well as less than accurate control over your timing curves in boost.

ha...i just sold my S-AFC yesterday in order to make room for my Hondata system which Jeff(boosted hybird) will be tuning in June

. The Hacks and tuning w/ the AFC's are not that good IMO. Hondata will give you that peace of mind as well as better overall results.

Hondata

get a msd btm for timing along with the vafc or SMC500 with some 450s, and 10 psi should be no problem. However, in the future when you decide 10psi is not enough, it will be cheaper in the long run to go hondata or something similar.

MSD btm and vafc add up to more than a hondata s100/s200 system...

Even though its only for OBDO, I love my Zdyne. Best part in my turbo setup by far...

Go with a standalone right from the start.

Deciding to go with a standalone killed my turbo project among other things.
Do it right from the get go. Going cheap on a car that is not supposed to be turboed is not a good idea.
