Turbo seems to choke when boost hits!?! Problems... please help
Can someone please help... I have a jdm SIR2 motor in a 92 CX and recently put a drag gen 3 kit on there. I have the entire kit with the following additions: walbro 255 lph fuel pump, rc 310cc injectors, custom 3 in downpipe, thermal 3 inch exhaust, b&m fpr with gauge, and some other stuff that shouldn't be the cause of the problem. here is the problem: I should be running stock boost (7psi) because of the external turbonetics wastegate. when boost comes on (well im not sure if its coming on, but it feels like its pulling faster and i can here it spool a little), it feels like my car chokes, like its stalling a little, so i let off the gas right away. i've been told it could be because im running lean, but i dont think thats the reason because i have the fmu, the injectors, upgraded fuel pump, and my fpr is set at 48 psi. does anyone know how to tell when an fmu goes bad? i have no idea what the problem could be. yeah, i know it needs to be tuned but that shouldn't be stopping me from hitting boost, i know people who boost their stock motors and are just fine with whats included in the turbo kit. it's been this way since the turbo kit was put on about 2 wks ago. thanks for any responses.

so are you saying that i could be running more than 7psi and that is causing my car to "choke"?

choke wouldnt be the word, how about lean RIGHT out and melt pistons into moving molten lava?

manifold leak.... i've never heard of that causing the car to feel like that under boost. where exactly is your manifold leaking? right where the manifold meets the head?

Re: Turbo seems to choke when boost hits!?! Problems... please help (eGeeHaTcH)
here's the new situation ppl, a friend told me to turn the fuel pressure down b/c he said 48psi was probably too much since i have an upgraded fuel pump, injectors, and fmu. so it is now down to 40psi and i ran it a couple times down the street. the car doesnt feel like it chokes anymore when boost hits, but when boost hits it DOES feel weaker. imagine a straight line on a piece of paper, now imagine the line is no longer straight, instead it fluctuates up and down like little mountains... thats what it feels like now when im in boost. im not sure if i should turn the fuel pressure up or down, what does everyone think? i would've done it all tonight but it was too dark and the mosquitos here probably have malaria.

I do. You don't have a boost gauge so you have no idea what so ever what psi you are really running. Also, you have no wideband so you have no clue how rich or lean the engine is running. Finally, your engine management stinks.
I know you're going to say... I can't afford all that stuff....
Autometer boost gauge= $30 to $60 used
Techedge O2= $300 build it yourself
uberdata= $100 to $400 depending on what you've already got.

Re: (adSPEED)
i have rc 310cc injectors. probably going with hondata s200, just waiting for a good deal.
Dr Pooface: i wasn't planning on getting a boost gauge b/c i have the greddy profec b spec 2 and im waiting to tune it, it has a digital boost reading so i was going to depend on that for my boost reading. my o2 sensor has 4 wires: 2 white, one gray, one black... does that mean its wideband? other gauges i have but arent hooked up is an air fuel gauge and egt gauge (need the right size tap)...
thanks for everyone's input

way to much fuel back the fpr to stock which is around 32-34 and see if that helps. many people just run 7 psi wit a 12:1 fmu and no 310 injectors. so i think you are boggin it out wit fuel. also get some ngk 2 step colder spark plugs.... they are like $4 a piece but can save your motor

thanks everybody, i'll try out the spark plugs. just called DRAG and ordered the ones they recommended. NGK 7 series. They said it was a colder plug and the gap should be .035. They also said the plugs should be changed with each oil change b/c the plugs don't last as long as the hotter plugs. what do you guys think about this... it would be such a waste of money... thanks again

you really should look at a better fuel management solution.
you're actually lucky, i happen to live here in gainesville, and tune quite a bit of cars
ditch your FMU and 310s, grab some 550s and hondata and ill make your car run stocklike.
if you need more guidance, hit me up on AIM: Mase Tuning
