Default turbo rebuild advice

I just tore the turbo off after I couldn't get the engine to boost and I believe it is in need of a rebuild. The retaining nut holding the compressor wheel onto the shaft was loose allowing the two wheels to move independently. I snugged the nut up a bit and they both move together now, but not very freely. What was the most likely cause of this, and is there anything I can do to fix it? If not, where should I get it rebuilt at? I am also wondering if this turbo is suitable for my future needs. It is the turbonetics t3/t4 that comes with the f-max kit. I have a built b17a that has been resleeved by Golden Eagle to 84.5mm. I'd like to boost around or a little over 1 bar when I'm finished. Should I consider upgrading to a ball bearing and/or water cooled section?

Excessive back to forth movement means the thrust bearing and/or collar is bad. Side to side movement means the shaft bearings and/or shaft is bad. Rebuild kits are cheap but it will probably be best to just send it to Majestic turbo or Texas turbo for rebuild.

If you have the extra money to spend getting getting th e will be good. Notice I said extra! I haven't used any US turbo rebuilders so your best bet would be to coontact Majestic or any other company that is suggested. Sorry..

Well, I called them couple days ago. Kevin told me rebuild and upgrade might be in the $600 range. Well, I'd buy a new turbo instead. He can't give you an exact cost without seeing your turbo.

I REBUILD MINE. COST $90 FOR THE KIT INCLUDING HAVING IT NEXT DAY OVERNITED ACROSS THE US. BOUGHT IT FROM TURBONETICS. DID THE COMPRESSOR LEAVE ANY MARKS ON THE SHAFT FROM NOT SPINNING?
