Default Turbo in the rain...does your car act "funny"

So I'm boosted now, and it has only rained really hard maybe twice. If it is just wet or lightly raining my car is fine. But when it rains really hard, my A/F reads very lean and I sputter when I hit boost. Is my turbo sucking in the spray off my tires or something? I had a CAI for over 2 years and never had any problems in any rain. How would it make my gauge read differently? Does anybody else have issues in heavy rain?

I just spin tires in the rain.

All the time.

my only guess is that the air is more saturated with water, therefore making the air less dense or something like that. I might be using the wrong terminology but you get the idea, water is taking up potential air space.

Your car may be running cooler and or the air may be more dense requiring more fuel. Are you running a wideband? What is your a/f going to? If you said it is running lean then I think you answered your own question.

I drive mine in the rain a lot and don't have any problems. My intake is a few inches from the ground so I know for a fact my filter gets soaked when it rains but car still drives the same. Is your distributor getting wet or something with your ign?

I just have the stock o2 hooked up to an autometer A/F gauge. When it is dry out, it acts fine. it stays in the green and the car runs like a champ. When it rains really hard, it will not even light up the last red light but every once and a while. Then every now and then it will pop up to stoich., but then it drops back out. It never did anything like that on the motor, even with the cai. I am running open down pipe...do you think water could be getting on the sensor?

i think you should throw the autometer guage and get a real a/f guage that actually tells you what your a/f is. For all you know the wire might be getting wet or lossing it ground and telling you it is running lean when in fact it is still running normal.

when it rains really hard the humity is way up there, the air has much more water in it, making more dense but less oxygenated, this means when you push the same amount of air through, your getting less oxygen, and less power. You should be running rich when this happens, not lean.

HAHA...well, I don't "know" it's running lean. The gauge is reading lean. The car is running fine and I checked the plugs and changed the plug wires yesterday. Everything is fine as far as that goes, unless the problem lies in the diz-. I only hit boost in the rain to see if everything was ok, cause the gauge was acting funny. I try not to make a habit of it...

Mositure will bring out any ingition problems. Check the cap and rotor if you have done plugs and wires.
