turbo questions(compressor map related)
alrighty i went to ..i forget the name of the turbo page..the one where it has the maps and you type stuff in and it plots it for you.
i did it for my b16. i tried the to4e 57 trim cause thats what i want to get. at 10 psi everything is cool.i imagined me buidling the motor and boosting 18.. it was a no go for that..and as you guessed it..anything higher wouldnt work. what i mean is the plots went off the graph..to the left...past the surge line. this doens make sense.i tried it on my own(with the help of scc) and it worked.
is that site wrong? am I going to be ok with this turbo.
to4e, 57 trim. .63 a/r etc. the max rev one.
damn. this is kinda a dumb bunch of questions but im just wondering.
i would rather get anwsers from you guys than that site.
thanks.

Do you mean you entered the numbers here?
http://www.turbofast.com.au/turbomap.html
If so, then it should be accurate. If it is not then someone let me know.

Hey SiRkid,
what did RPM, BOOST, VE, and IC % did you enter in the turbo calculator?
Here is something I posted on http://www.clubsi.com concerning figuring out your own compressor size for high boost (15+ PSI).
I think this might be why your left most "dots " are in the surge limit area.

id like to know also,
what trim and compressor is best suited for a
intercooled stock b16a at 6-8 psi..

The T04E 46 trim is also good, but it is better suited for 10-12Psi. It will surge if pushed over 12Psi.
Now the T3 Super 60 is sweet for this motor/boost level. It is good up to about 15Psi.
Even the T3 60 trim works great, and 15Psi will not surge on this motor.
I used 2500 for the rpm when boost first comes on, and 3500 for max boost.

Make sure you convert CFM to Lb/min. Sometimes the simple things are overlooked.. like NASA.

Re: turbo questions(compressor map related) (Rob92SC)
what about the 57 trim???????
i know 50 trim works well but waht about 57????
like i said...on paper..for me.it seemed to work..for low and high boost.
97 what do you think?

Re: turbo questions(compressor map related) (SiRkid)
im no expert but the 57 would have major lag at <8 psi
it depends how many psi u wanna boost
if u build the b16a to accept more boost then it might be a good chioce..
at 8-10psi the 54 trim should be sufficient
any other comments..! keep this alive.

Re: turbo questions(compressor map related) (Giuseppe)
For high boost applications, I'd chose the 57 wheel over the 54 any day. Not just because it's bigger, but the compressor map is alot nicer on the 57.. has a fatter max effeciency area. The lag difference between the two should be too small to notice.. yes, compressor wheels do add a little to lag.. but not nearly as much so as exhaust housing A/R and turbine size.

Re: turbo questions(compressor map related) (SiRkid)
The 57 trim at 8Psi will never go into the most efficient area on the compressor map. It will not be terrible, but the 46 trim is better at that boost level. The 57 is ok at 10Psi-12Psi. Then it will go through the 74% efficient range nicely.

Oh, we're only talking about 10 psi or so?? I thought the original question was for 18psi... doh, muh bad.

Re: turbo questions(compressor map related) (97CivicFerio)
well for both.
i want somethign that will be pretty damn good at 10 psi and then when i build the motor for it to be smokin
so my calculations are right. the 57 will be ok?!
damn.i need to order my stuff instead of second guessing myself about everything i know.

It is nothing, I love calculating turbo-related numbers!
b16a 8psi max stock bottom end..
weve already established for the above that a
t3/t04e 54trim ??A/R...??? and what stage wheel..?
thanks...

Re: turbo questions(compressor map related) (Giuseppe)
I'd use a .48A/R with a Stage 3 wheel. It will spool quick and at 8Psi, should not drop off at the upper revs much if at all.
