Turbo plans! halp!
Hey all,
Import Parts just finished sending out my Drag III turbo kit for my LS via UPS yesterday so I should be getting it soon! My engine currently has 145,x miles on it.. Did a compression test, everything seems to be running great with the exception of a radiator problem that is being treated. I bought my car 4 months ago so I'm not too sure how well it was kept up but from what I can tell it's been well taken care of and runs strong. Should I change timing belts b4 turbo? Water pump?
My plans...
I just got off the phone with a shop in Miami (Ricky's Auto) that sells motors and they quoted me $800 for a 95 LS motor with no tranny, etc just the motor with 55,000 miles on it.. I was thinking about buying this motor as a backup plan so if mine *knock on wood* blows up.. which seems to be inevitable given the mileage, so my question is this..
Invest 800 into spare motor that will go through a rebuilding phase while I run my current setup.. or invest 800 into a stand alone fuel management, fuel or no fuel I don't think it would be wise to boost over 8 on my current motor (daily driven about 250 miles a week)
Thanks in advance, and I'm still looking for someone in Miami to help me out with the install (for a fee of course) because I'm not looking forward to paying shop charges and really lack tools ^_^. (Oh yea, how detailed are Drag install manuals that come with kit in mail?)

invest as much as you can into a standalone system..be it AEM, Hondata...whatever. Hook your kit up and then tune...tune...tune. You will be happy for a while at low boost.

yes, i would change the timing belt...if you bought the car 4 months ago, you may never know if they ever changed it at 80-90k, so change it up. waterpump shouldn't be a big deal if you aren't overheating now. welcome to the darkside and do us all a favor, and take your time on the install...
