Default Turbo oil return line

So just got my car out of the shop, they had tapped and welded the bung in my oil pan, and they also hooked up my return line. I haven't had any problems with it, the shop says the return line looks great along with the tuner that tuned it from a different shop.....just looking to see what your guys opinions on it are?....my.brother and my neighbors return lines look pretty close to mine so just curious. Thanks guys.

Why are there so many adapters on the turbo flange?

What adapters are you talking about I'd like to know? Or can we just stick with the original question?

Is it me or is the fitting on the turbo not assembled correctly, shouldnt the red outside barrel be up against the shoulder of the inner fitting?

Id put a heat sleeve on that drain line at least and consider reducing the amount of fittings on the drain flange.

Looks like the braided sleeve is coming out of the fitting. Id pull the line off and re assemble the fitting

I'm sure the tape slid off a little, I'm still gonna Teflon the threads before it's on for good but ad far as the angle, how it comes straight down and does a half circle back into the bung....does that work ok? I thought they were supposed to be straight up and down...

Do not use teflon tape on AN fittings. they do not need it. the hose is okay until that line comes out of that fitting and you pump all the oil out of the engine.

Maybe its just the angle but it also looks like his line has an upward angle going to the pan.

That's horrible. Any upward slope is bad.

Also no form of sealant is supposed to be used on an fittings liquid, tape, or otherwise.

I use electrical tape to wrap the line. Then I cut with an angle grinder. I use a dewalt drill and 3/8 drive adapter to a socket to appropriate size of the b nut. Place the hose in the sleeve and clamp it in a vice. Blow the hose out and dab a small amount of petroleum jelly on the end of the b nut that goes into the hose. Take the drill and push and turn until the b nut bites into the sleeve and draws tight. Works on russel and cheapo Chinese fittings like a charm.

Your line is not assembled correctly. It looks pinched and twisted.

Like others have said, the braid looks effed.

  • Electrical tape where you want to cut
  • Cut with hacksaw or sawzall or preferred method (some work better then others for not fraying ends),
  • Stick red sleeve in a vise (with cloth around so you don't marr up the finish) push hose through back of it
  • Lube hose end liberally and stick the blue part into hose pushing and turning at the same time until it grabs
It can be a bitch sometimes but you'll get the hang of it.

I would consider doing a 45' fitting off of the turbo to make the slope more gradual and put some heat wrap around that down pipe or put a sleeve over the return.

Having your pictures rotated 90 makes it a little tough to visualize.

Looks to me you need to take about 1/2 inch (or maybe a whole inch) from the line.
Right in the middle of the line, I can see the braiding weave expanding a lot which suggests to me that there is likely a little too much material in the bend.
The weave at the turbo fitting is really compressed which suggests it is the inside radius of a tight bend. A 45 could be helpful to control that turn better.
Other than that, I don't see any issue with it's ability to get oil back to your pan.

I freaking HATE your manifold touching the line. That will rub all day long and the heat WILL coke up the oil.

Thats surely a bad angle drain. Secondly its touching the downpipe! That pipe is glowing red hot on pulls, that needs to be addressed before the car is moved. And ontop of that looks like youve already used regular wrenches on the lines and started stripping it and pulling out the braids, its pooched.

Also, your 02 sensor is welded completely opposite as to what is recommended, they are supposed to be tilted so the sensor tip is facing 15* away from the flow of exhaust, yours is pointing the tip INTO the flow of exhaust
