Turbo Oil feed line restrictor size? Think my turbo is burning oil...
I have a Precision SC61... anytime I boost it, when I let off the gas I get a cloud of oil smoke out the exhaust for a few seconds, then it stops and doesnt do it again until I boost.
Currently the turbo is fed with a -4an oil line... I have a restrictor fitting that is 4.6mm. My engine runs very high oil pressure because its a H22 with removed balance shafts... I am at 60-80 psi all the time if I am cruising, it goes up to 100 psi when accelerating then it drops down to 80 probably when the oil pressure releif valve opens.
I am hoping that the burning oil is just the turbo seals getting too much pressure... the engine has good leakdown numbers.
I can get a restrictor that is meant for ball bearing turbo, but it is really small it is only .6mm , think that is too small?

You definitely need a restrictor. Non-BB should be about .060 and a BB should be about .040.

Yah, it should be around .06 or 1/16th. I bought one from a buddy's shop and then just drilled it out. There was also a thread about someone using the nitros jets as well, do a search, I found it before when I was looking for information on restrictors.

I have the same exact problem.
I rebuilt my own oil pump which yields about 70-80psi on startup/warmup.
I'm also using a -4an feed line to a turbonetics ballbearing turbo, with no restrictor, so its kind of a smoke show behind me when you transition into boost.
I'm going to install the .060 unit from ATP turbo today to see if that helps cut down the volume.
I rebuilt my own oil pump which yields about 70-80psi on startup/warmup.

we took the restrictor and welded it shut and a i drilled a pretty small hole in it... seems to have fixed the problem buti ts definatly over .060 just cause we did that before reading this thread. ill go drive it now during the day and see if it really stopped

just replace the line with -3AN and you'll be fine. I have had hundreds maybe thousands of customers out there and I have never sold a -4AN oil feed line for that reason.

I thought I was all alone with same problem as you. I did everything in the book but to no avail. I leave a James Bond smoke screen when I boost. I gave up and bought a new t67/t3 bb turbo. I am still going to send my SC61 to precision and give a try on my next set-up. Let me know if you solve your problem.

Nitrous jets work great as restrictors. Just wack the top off of the male fitting at the end of the line and pop the jet onto it. You can easily change the size to make it a perfect match for your setup.
If you are not familiar with how the pills work, just go to a speed shop and ask to see a nozzle and some jets. You will notice that when the pill sits in the opening for the jet (where the line connects) it completes an AN type shape that the line then seals against. If you chop the cone part off of the same size AN fitting, you get the same effect as used in the N2O jets.
Hope that made sense.

Either works fine, I just figure its more likely he has a dremel or other simple cut-off wheel than a tap & die set.
