Default Turbo Mini me blew up....why???

i jsut finished my buddy mini me with a turbo and we go out and he trys to boost and stops at 5000 rpms and it seemed like it boged out with fuel and it would backfire. it sounded like when u have a stageing rev limit and it hits that. so we tryed turning the fpr down and tried adjsuting the safc a little bit. i couldnt get it to go past 5000. so we went to a friends house and he went out and tried to see what was up and he couldnt get it to go over 5000 unless he just barely pushed the pedal in. he decided to hammer on it and he just let it keep hitting 5000 and it was jsut like hitting the limiter then boom.... threw a rod threw the block. this is only on 8 psi he said it spiked to 10 a lil. then after it blew he tried saying their must be holes in the charge pipe welds and it was leaking out somewhere but i had some pin size holes on the weld for my charge pipes but it ran and boosted fine so i dont think that is the problem i think it has to do with the fuel system. it has dsm 450 injectors i wired the resistors in and i am pretty sure they were right.i cut the yellow wire with the black stripe and soldered the resistors in for each injector. it was a afc hack the fpg gauge said 32-33. what do you guys think happed so i know how to make sure it doesnt do it again when i put the new block in. i dont know if it matters but it was a t25 turbo and the seals were starting to go.

I dont know why you couldnt rev over 5k, but when you start screwing with fuel and you dont have a wideband, thats a plan for disaster. Did you even think to retard the timming at all? What ocatane gas were you running? Sounds like you blew your motor cause of to much timming or you leaned it out and it blew. Good lessen for next time is figure out what compression the mini makes the motor and then tune from there with a wideband and keep an eye on timming.

Yeah even if you change the fuel pressure +/- 1psi, you need to re-tune accordingly.

Sucks it blew up, but it was 100% human error.

Any CEL before it blew?

Not to down on your misfortune but this is exactly why you want to learn on a d-series motor.. Now you know or can figure out what went wrong and fix it and it doesnt cost you much money at all.. I blew up my d15b7/z6 mini-me when I boosted it and it only lasted 1 hour..

I knew what I did wrong and look at my times now.. Im not bragging or anything im just saying that it is good to learn on d-series motors..

Well nobody wants to keep blowing motors for their own mistakes.. But arent you glad you didnt do this to a B16 motor..

Majority of your stuff is probably still good.. you just need to find another short block.. Check the valves in the head to make sure they didnt get bent by the piston slamming into them(if it even did).. Let me know if you need some stuff.. I have d15 stuff laying around that im not using..
