Turbo manifold to hood clearance?
Hi, ramhorn in a B series EF. DIY mounts.
Its a close fit to my ZC VIS CF hood.. Now.. How close is too close? Just a mild setup looking for ~300whp.
is 1/2" of clearance enough?
TYIA

You could wrap the ramhorn, and also by some of that heat shield that sticks, like mat.... i don't knwo what its called. Summit carries it, as i'm sure many places do.

Re: Turbo manifold to hood clearance? (coneheadsracing)
Im going to be running a solid rear mount (plate on each side) not solid rubber. So engine movement will be very minimal.
I highly doubt it will warp the hood if its not touching/pressure. My valvecover has been rubbing (pushing) for over a year, (on the actuall hood) not skelleton, and the hood still is fine.
Also, my mount setup (DIY) causes the engine to sit high.. especially on drivers side. So im considering shimming the mounts down about 1/2".. This will straighten the axles, as well as give me added clearance.
I just dont want the heat to give the hood a glaze over the area of the manifold.
Thanks! Ill take some pics tommorow night.

Umm i don't know about you, but i can usualy put a hand on my valve cover after driving, i can't hold it there. Have you ever put your hand near the manifold of a turbo.... personaly i'd wrap it, and put some heat shield on your hood. Unless your into show, its a no brainer in my opinion.

haha show.. no.
But heat disipates.. and the heat from the manifold 1/2" away is probably the same as touching the valve cover?.. No?
And the valve cover added pressure, the manifold wont.
I will wrap it! Even if i just wrap the top of the 2 front runners. (where clearance is close)

Re: Turbo manifold to hood clearance? (HamiltonRex)
Check my manifold wrap thread I made thats ongoing, might answer some q's for you
How exactly do you shim down an engine a 1/2"
Ive got a crx d16 with the stock mounts, I dont see a way to make an engine sit lower when the mounts are solid mounting on the sides

B series driver and passenger mount are 2 piece. Where they bolt together, i can add washers.
I just have to watch the rear mount to make sure it likes where im putting it.
