Default Turbo LS/Vtec * Oil cooler, or no ???

So I am currently planning an LS/Vtec built to replace the stock motor in my LS-T. I already have alot on my plate ... but I have been debating the usfulness of running an oil cooler.

Now I'm already gonna have to run oil lines to the head and turbo ... so I don't want to over do it trying to set up an oil cooler. And I already run synthetic oil and change it often so I am not real sure how badly I need an oil cooler.

Anyway, I'd like to hear some debate/input of how much good an oil cooler would really do my set up compared to the time/cost/potentially leaky oil lines/etc involved.

Set up should be:
B16 head
B18B block (stock sleeves)
Eagle rods
CP pistons
ACLs
SC34
RC550s
Crome
tryin for 400hp

it couldn't hurt to get the oil cooler. My setup costed like less than $200, and has never leaked once.

good question, i was wondering this also... MY setup this winter is VERY similar to yours, besides the Turbo you are using..
Do you think the 550s will be sufficient for 400?

You should be able to hit 400, but you'll be stretching them pretty hard.

I'm thinkin they'll make it but it would be close .... but so is the budget.

I was really thinking it wouldn't be a necessity.... in which case I'll probably shy away from it .

Might you have a more specific/convincing argument as to why its not required?

Or do you by chance have an oil temp guage???

Thanks

Oil pressure or oil temp. Pick which one you feel is more important. If you really care, you'll modify the pump, enlarge the oil gallery, smooth the flow into the filter, etc. The other way to help slightly lower pressure when you use a cooler is to put in some 20-50wt oil. [Theoreticly] Stronger film, more pressure - 2 birds with 1 stone.

I've read up on this before, Honda motors are designed to survive if their oil gets hot. Some people see 240+ oil temps at the track, and live to race another day. Other types of motors can't handle 200+ temps.
