Turbo Kit - Is this a good purchase?
I have the oppurtunity to purchase the following
-garrett t3/04e
-drag manifold external wastegate
-custom downpipe
-tial 48mm wastegate
-greddy type s bov
-drag intercooler
-all lines and piping
-greddy emanage (with all harnesses and E01 )
-rc 550 cc injectors
-plx wideband o2 with digital display
-autometer pro series boost guage
Price is $4000 Canadian
The situation is a friend of mine is doing a turbo install on his 1992 LS with a B16A in it. I have a 1996 GS-R (Bone Stock, believe it or not) with 167,000km and it is truly in great shape. I would of course get the car and compression checked before i go through with this. He says he would sell everything if he had the opportunity. I am considering buying the kit and then letting it sit in my room for a couple months until i have enough funds to install it and upgrade the neccesary things , such as a new clutch and tires. Please give me your oppinions and pointers on this and tell me if you think i should purchase the kit? thxs
I also forgot to note that i do not plan to touch the internals, or run anything above 10psi. In doing this i would expect to get a high 13 to low 14 car with HP coming in at around 240-250 at the wheels and the whole project costing me close to $7500. This would be plenty fast for me. Correct me if i am wrong on anything.

From what i know this is a fair price. I think you guys down there get some crazy deals on turbo kits. I am probaly wrong and all that stuff isn't much more than that brand new.
As for the wastegate, i have no clue if thats what he meant. thxs for the help.

I was asking this to find out if you guys feel that this is a fair deal, but from what i see you guys say it is pricy. I know the Greddy Emanage w/E01 and harness's brand new is at least 1000 so i dont understand how you guys can get a full kit for 2800-3000.
My friend says it isn't for sale but if he can get 4000 for it then he would sell it because he still has to repaint the car and redo the suspension. I only have about 2000 now. I could have the money by summer and i am sure he will still have the turbo then. Here are some pics of the stuff.
PS. My friend told me he has already paid for the e01 but just hasn't picked it up.

... I hate to tell you this but your friend is ripping you off.
I did my entire turbo kit for $1000 canadian. Including Uberdata for fuel management as well as some other misc things. (I live in Edmonton, AB).
If you have any questions PM me.

Re: (mattEG)
ya u guys are right, i don't like the condition of the manifold or downpipe either and the turbo doesn't seem to be in great condition either. Im pretty sure he paid less than 4000 to. I think im gonna go to that turbo shop somtime and price out a kit. Im sure my friend would come down on the price a bit as well. Thanks for the help.

just by looking at the condition of the motor he has, i can tell you that the turbo kit was probably not maintained that well, and if tha thing is leaking oil that bad anywhere in the exhaust, i wouldnt buy it.
besides the downpipe looks like poop, the kit just looks to be in more than used condition, you can find a kit on here for much less, and the greddy management as far as im concerned is like a mistake, just go buy some hondata or AEM for that much

I would pass, for what you're willing to spend, come to the States and buy the stuff.. I wouldn't even pay 500 US for those items..

Re: (mrbsponge)
ok, thanks guys. I get the hint now, i wasn't too fond of the downpipe, manifold or turbo either. I'm pretty sure he paid a lot less than 4000 for it, and i know it has had at least 1 owner before him.
I don't see whats wrong with the E-Manage w/ all harnesses and E01. From what i have heard it is probaly the next best thing to a stand alone. I don't want to go from OBDII to OBDI and then go through all that money and trouble for Hondata.
