Turbo Gurus: t3/t4E vs. t3/t4B
I understand that the E trim is a bigger turbo. My question is that if I decided to run the B trim on my LS hatch, would this reduce lag? I am considering the B trim cause I doubt I would ever max its potential. Also, what are the Pros and cons for each? Thanks

First off, let me state the fact that I'm no guru.
I believe to reduce lag, you'd wanna concentrate more on the T3 (exhaust) side of the turbo. For quicker spooling characteristics, you'd choose an A/R .48 housing instead of a A/R .63 one. That would probably be better suited for an LS motor anyway (unless you changed the valvetrain so that you could rev higher than stock). The GS-R crowd seem to like the A/R .63 housings because they don't seem to "lose steam" in the higher rpm range like the .48 do.
Actually, it looks like the inducer/major diameters on many of the T04B are larger than the T04E ones. I think you should actually see which one is better suited to your engine by graphing them out on the compressor flow maps.

Yeah I am pretty new alot of the turbo tech. I notice that the Drag kits that importparts.com sell for a b18b1 hybrid civic come with the t3/t4e turbo. still learning!

The t3/t04e is a bit bigger then the b so yes there is going to be a bit less turbo lag spooling up but its not a "big" difference. This is from comparing the B that come in a Drag kit to my E from a rev-hard kit. But the the E spools up it hits a bit harder then the B. so there are two things to think about when comparing the two.

Another thing to think about is that the E-series compressors are generally a few points more efficient than the B-series, so you will have slightly lower charge temp and therefore higher density using the 04E.

Yes just like dbman96 said, the T04 E 60 can be 75% efficient up to 25-27 PSI (MAX), but thats in a very samll window probably about 500-1500 RPM close to redline.
while the T04B is only 74% efficient at about 16 PSI (MAX). also within a window of about 1000-1500 RPM's.
Zynentech,
when full boost hits is usually dependent on the size of the TURBINE A/R not the compressor size. The compressor size might determine lag but only to a very small extent. Also when "full boost hits" depends on how much "full boost" is.
to give you a general idea, an H22 VTEC will hit the following boost pressure at the following RPM's.
this is from Turbo Lude SH's setup
T3 (.63 a/r) T04E 60, and a ceramic BB
8 psi = 2900-3100 RPM's
10 psi = 3400 RPM's
12 psi = 3600 RPM's (He never ran 12psi specifically)
15 psi = 3900-4100 RPM's.
18 psi = Havent tried yet
for a standard BB I would just add about 700-800 RPM's to the Ceramics' RPM #'s
a bigger turbine a/r means you will hit that the same boost pressure will be hit at a higher RPM due to more lag. too big of an a/r and you might not even hit your desired boost pressure!
