turbo filters/screens
I have no room what so ever to run a normal size filter. Ive been reading on screens, and mushroom filters, lots of back and forth debate. Now give me yall's opinions please

could possibly be daily, I don't know, I have two civics and I use them both, and once the eg is tuned and up to par I will want to drive it all the time I'm sure.

Keep in mind, with no filter you will be forcing all that dust/pollen/etc through the entire engine. Is there so little room that you can't run tubing to another area where the filter would fit? The only time I would consider running no filter would be on a car that only drove on a drag strip.

Re: turbo filters/screens
I don't have filters on a few of my cars... They are all screens, and they are all driven on a regular basis. I think I have been doing for the past 7-8 years. I always try to fit a filter if the opportunity is there, but somehow I keep cramming all this sh*t in my engine bay and get greedy with turbo size. None of my current setup has an air filter except for the Evo, which definitely needs one due to the MAF sensor.
It depends on where you live and what road conditions you have to drive through everyday. I go through some occasional construction areas, but I like to keep my car clean so I avoid them even if I had to take another route to work.
My old GT2871R turbo on the Integra had signs of wear on the compressor blades after about 50k miles. It was a low mounted turbo, and the car had no undertray. I'd say the condition of the compressor blade would be 4/10 when I removed it.
The day I had the motor rebuilt after 65k miles, the intake manifold had a thick film of soot, but it was also constantly being cleaned away from the water/meth. The back of the intake valves had minor roughness, but the valve seat and everything else was still fine.
On my Camry, the turbo was behind the headlight and it is a much bigger turbo. Bigger turbo can allow fine debris through without damage, and the high mounted position prevented any road debris from flying up there. The GT40R was on there for about 4 years and about 30k miles, and barely any damage on the compressor wheel. It went through winter salts too.
The Supra goes through too little mileage (only abour 5k miles a year).. No issues there.

Re: turbo filters/screens
op, i guess its what fits in there and like every one else said, if its a dd. My Si with a 6262 mounted to a FR ramhorn was mounted comparatively low. I daily drove it for only 8-10k miles. compressor was fine when i tore it down, but there was *** loads of carbon and fine dirt in the housing due to mounting position and a open pipe under the hood. my issue with filter is the cheap ones always collapsed under boost and i lost ALOT of power from it. How ever i did not try the higher end mushroom filters or a k&n. IMO i would try to run one if you can. It will save you turbo in the long run.

Re: turbo filters/screens
Screens are terrible for flow and only protect against large debris, which is uncommon.
Large filters are best but most of the time we dont have the space for it.
I run a K&N RU-2520 on my GT30 and was causing a restriction above 20psi.
Im not running anything anymore.

Which ever route you choose to go just don't use a murshroom or a generic filter, spend the extra 20 buck and get the k&n. I personally use screens and a 3 inch v stack on my dd for a while now

I'm still confused on what I should get. I want to go to lowes and get a screen or two but I don't want the screens to be restrictive, or a filter, like the small blue one posted above. I would buy that but who knows if its restrictive.

Re: turbo filters/screens
I dynoed my car on the 61mm back in the days and it made 620 Without the filter. Put it on (5" K&N) and it made 612.
759 WHP 67 MM wheel on same car... 750 even with filter (Also K&N).
For 10 WHeel, run a ****ing filter if you can fit it. Its less restrictive than a screen as well(And if you argue that its not youre a moron, and Im not going to even go into why, not as big of a deal on a 4" inlet... But a 3" e cover, the surface area is impacted as great deal ;O) ).
And a double screen? Double facepalm.
K&N mmakes a 3.5 " one... Id buy it before that spectre piece of crap.
