Not trying to thread jack but.....
Speaking of filters, what kind do you guys like?? And is there one type that flows well but is low profile?? I have a setup that is limited on space.

Re: Turbo Filter Mesh Screen
i just picked up a 200mm hks mushroom for this exact reason. you pretty much have to run what you can fit but the larger that filter is the less restrictive all else equal. some of the jdm importers have been selling authentic used mushrooms around $50 which isn't bad for a filter that both flows and filters well. K&N also has the high flow models, just have less surface area than the mushroom.
i would not run that screen for anything but drag racing. it's still going to allow a lot of grit, dust and crap to enter the engine.

i think "long term" to the people doing this is 6 months, not 6 years.

Re: Turbo Filter Mesh Screen
I have seen people loose 15-20hp by using one of those "mushroom" filters. I used to run a screen on the turbo and it sucked cleaning that turbo every weekend. Once I found a filter that fit I have always run one. Just cheap insurance for your turbo and engine's life imo. I need to looking into these mushroom filters and compare them to my K&N and report back.

there are SO many knockoffs floating around that real hks mushrooms are seriously not easy to find. i have to run out to a job right now but i'll dig around when i get back and see if i can find a few...actually, this wasn't too hard, never mind, here are a few dealers

Re: Turbo Filter Mesh Screen
My god, this thread reminded me of how stupid people are.
Also, what about the talk of the HKS filters falling to pieces(deteriorating) and getting sucked in? Is that BS?

Re: Turbo Filter Mesh Screen
Sorry...ive never found that to be true. On the dyno weve tried like 3 brand name filters, no filter, a screen, and a turbonetics air horn. The air horn made the most power and the filter setups were the least with the screen and open turbo right behind the air horn. As for the screen, we use fiberglass screen door/window screen. That way if for some reason it were to get sucked in it doesnt hurt anything in the turbo or motor, it just burns.
