turbo exhaust size Q....
OK, so I have heard this question a hundred times, but now I find myself debating the same thing. I am going to do a new exhaust on my car and can't decide on the size. It's a turbo B16 and the goal on this car is about 260-280 whp with as little boost as possible. The car is open DP at the moment. The delima is, I want to make good power with a full exhaust (CRX, so I can run a normal size muffler) and not be crazy loud. Would I gain enough hp at this overall power level as opposed to a 2.5" to make it worthwhile or should I just make a 2.5" and call it a day. I know 2.5" is not very restrictive at that level (my DP is 2.5" at the moment too) but can't decide if 3" is worth it. If I had a 500 whp street car, this would be a no brainer... Lend me you opinions.

what would a good muffler to go with that will keep the noise down since its a high-comp motor and the 3" pipe but still flow pretty well. This is a full size muffler i am speaking of, not just a straight through race type. Thanks in advance.

For that particular power goal, 2.5" is still fine, especially due to the clearance issues that you will face when it comes to actual fitment. Yes, 3" is always "better" but, it's more like it's "better when possible". Not all engine scenarios will allow for it without considerable expense applied. For the HP goals that you're looking for, I have no doubt that the 2.5" will still perform its job without stress.

...he's always right anyway
You may gain 5whp with a 3 inch, but those power goals you can stay with your 2.5". 3" ES oval muffler from kteller sounds nice in my opinion. I personally have no muffler or cat. Just a long (24") resonator all on 3". If you can do the 3" easily I would just for later upgrading reasons and it's always better to go bigger as THE Shodan stated...hell jump on the bandwagon and go 4"
