Turbo on D16z5 or D15b7
sorry for my bad Englis
What's the best plan for me. Boost a D16z5 or a D15b7 tot get about 180 hp. I think I can put esier more hp out a D16z5 but I know the D15 is more reliable. How reliable is a D16 boosted??

Re: (xtremeazian)
Liessel is near amsterdam Holland
I mean the motor from a EJ2 (civic coupe '94-'95)--> D15b7
And the one from the ED8 (CRX Coupe '89-'93)--> D16z5
I'm not sure these motors are being sold in the US, I know the d15z1 hasn't been sold over here

I don't think we can help you with your other wordly motors
We've only heard of the z1 and z6 around here. But this "z5" of which you speak is an older motor. And generally, the newer a motor is, the better it is because the manufacturing technology is better

Re: (EnzoSpeed)
D16z5 is the 126hp DOHC non V-tec engine
We also have the D16z6 a 125hp SOHC V-tec engine isn't it?? I was told it's more risky to put a turbo on it than a D15b7 or a B16/18

You can turbo any engine you want as long as you dont go overboard with boost with stock internal's and have properly tuned fuel management.

Re: (Newt Dog)
I know but some engine's can handle power/boost better than other one's do. That's what my question is about

Well, I know the r/s ratio on a D16 is an area of concern for many people. It puts more stress on the rods.
With a D15, you will be able to make more power on stock internals because the stroke is shorter. But then again, it will also make a little less torque.

so basically the d16z5 is the same as our d16? (dohc zc)
Of all the motors you listed I believe the d15b7 is going to be the weakest one of them all. The b16/18 is obvioulsy the strongest of the bunch, then the d16z6 and d16z5 are going to be simular...
I had a boosted d15b7 and it was decent at the time (5 years ago) It made about 160whp and ran strong, but nothing like the boosted d16's of today.

Re: (b16ahybrid)
Ohhhh, so the d16z5 is a ZC! Those damn ZC motors are weird - there's like a dozen different models that were made around the world.
In that case, I wouldn't boost either. You will probably have a harder time finding parts for them because they are not commonly boosted motors.
Get either a d16y8 or a d16z6 to boost. The aftermarket backing for those two motors is excellent and cheap too.

Re: (EnzoSpeed)
I don't know the d16y8 here in Europe, but we do have the d16y9, that one is nearly similar to the d16z5 I thought.
I do know the d16z6 (SOHC 125hp vtec isn't it??), but here in Holland it's well-known that this engine is less reliable than the d15b7
BTW what's the difference between the stuff I need for boosting a d15b7 or a d16z6?? These engines have a lot in common.
For the time I don't want to boost a B16/B18, it's to expencive for me especcialy when it gets wrong.

d16 is a stronger engine internally then the d15b7. Most parts are interchangeable, except cams etc. bolt-ons are all interchangeable (manifolds, intakes, turbo kits,etc....)
The d15 is a great motor, but I would have a hard time pushing it past 200whp, as where the d16 I would have no problem running 230+ whp all day...
