Turbo In + Crusing + Partial Boost = Overheat?
Turbo Out + N/A + Full Throttle = Doesn't overheat?
This is my third turbocharged application and this is the first I have ever experience this.... Now to the questions and my brief story!!
Alright, I got this weird problem. I had my turbo kit in recently. I have a d16z6 with vitaras, eagle rods, kms blockgaurd, cosmetic head gasket, arp head studs, dual core delsol radiator, drag manifold, 38mm tial waste gate, large 6 inch johnny race car inter cooler, turbonetics t3/t4 to4e hybrid, thermostat w few extra holes mod. Anyhow, my question is why am I overheating just cruising at light throttle near 0 psi and into boost? Could it be the intercooler blocking air flow? Could I my timing be too advance? Well the part that gets me is I took the whole kit out and I am N/A until this is solved, but the weird part is that I am no longer overheating while I am N/A 0 to 100% throttle. Why is this? Thanks any help will be appreciated.

A turbo is going to put out much more heat then a header, that coupled with an intercooler blocknig airflow to the radiaotr is most likely causing the overheating issues.

is there a large gap between your intercooler and radiator? i just read a thread on here the other day, it seems the smaller the gap the better between the two, ie <1"

Re: (bch5428)
The intercooler was flush to the chasis their was really no gap. I cut my bumper out in the shape of my intercooler. As for tuning wise stuff, I was running a SAFCII, an LC-1 with a moates O-meter, 450cc blacktop injectors w/ inline resistors, walbro 255lph fuel pump. afr stayed around 14.7 crusing light throttle. and around 11.5 to 12.5 hitting boost. I would say that I was pretty rich. I am guessing its a timing issue that has to do with the SAFCII. Hmm.. I think I just figured it out. Well next system I am gonna go with is crome pro.
