Turbo choices *searched*
Doing my turbo setup on my B18C1 this winter. my goal is to hit 400 whp on stock block. will most likely be using a ramhorn mani , victor x intake mani, some sort of turbo cams, S300 and a mugen twinloop. i know i know mugen twinloop is not good for turbo and i know it will hold me back but im ok with that id rather have it then some 3 inch tube from the turbo back..
so ive searched and cant seem to find any definite info on what turbo i should be using.... alot of people are using precision SC61. is that a good choice or should i be using something different for better results. my rev range will most likely stay between 4,000-8,000 rpms.
i dont really know what my options are... im not too familiar with what turbo choices there are for my goals

400 wont be an issue with stock cams and IM. Maybe put that money somewhere else? I make 430 with both of those stock, but the exhaust is going to hurt you. Go with a 3" thermal r&d. Much better than a "3" tube". For the most streetable application get a ball bearing turbo, I would go with a 3076r over the SC61 any day! I had a 60-1 and the lag was horrible. My 3076r pulls hard from 4-8k. Look around a little more, most will say the 3076 is one of, if not the best street turbo!

ok your speaking of a garret gt3076?
i know ball bearing is obviously the best choice...if my budget allows lol... so a 60-1 is a bigger turbo than the gt3076 and spools slower, but i assume makes more high end?

not really, the 60-1 is old school, the 3076r is newer school. They both max out AROUND 550whp depending on the setup of course, and the 30r will give you a much more broad powerband. Though it is a bit more expensive.
edit: and looking at your first post, you were talking about the sc61, which is way more laggy, but will support a good bit more hp than the 30r. The 60-1 and sc61 are not the same at all.

Re: Turbo choices *searched*
IF your mind is set on that Mugen exhaust, you basically are limited to something GT30r or smaller as that exhaust will choke out the larger turbines. My personal vote would be a run of the mill Garrett T3/To4e turbo, prob the .63 turbine housing, although the 57 will get you where you want to go. Much cheaper than the Gt30r and you can save that money to get a GOOD TUNE!!!!!! really that stupid exhaust is going to cost you more money and lower your potential power output..... pretty dumb if you ask me. Ever think about a Cutout? just food for thought.

Re: Turbo choices *searched*
thanks for the good info so far everyone! apparently an SC61 and a 60-1 turbo are not my best options....
i think the GT30R seems to be my best choice so far judging from what everyone is saying. I dont mind spending the extra money on a better turbo if yours gonna spool faster and yeild better overall results. I think ill plan on running an exhaust cutout with one of those solenoids for track use, but is using an exhaust cutout going to effect my tune? like will i need a separate tune when im using the cutout??
