turbo b18c1 shattered oil pump. any idea why?

turbo b18c1 shattered oil pump. any idea why?
went to the track today and on my 4th or 5th pass the oil light came on and it dropped out of vtec, so i turned the key off and coasted threw the traps. got it home and tore it down and here the oil pump actually shattered and peices of it was in the pick up tube. any ideas on what to look for so this dont happen again? on a side note even though the track was ice cold and no prep i set a PB MPH wise, 143.06. no traction so new ET best.

more info : crank is a ls crank, ls rods. was revving to 9300 perhaps the ls crank cant rev that high with out being balanced?

Yeah you definitely need to get an ATI! I've broken oil pumps with the stock pulley and the ctr n-1 before, its definitely a necessity.

OEM pump? Was the rubber in it perfect, or cracking? Was the block ever align-honed? 8lb flywheel and unspring clutch? Those are the main issues that can shatter the pump from harmonic vibration and drivetrain shock. Couple that with no accessories to drive (and loose alt belt), the oil pump takes a beating. From what I can tell its almost tool steel, meaning it's less ductile (cracks like glass).

it has std bearings in it so i dont think it was aligned bored, or am i mistaken in thinking that a align bore will change bearing size? stock flywheel sprung disk, alternator belt is tight. well that set up is now torn down and im going a little different route, it was ls crank ls rods and cp pistons , im going with gsr crank gsr eagle rods and wiseco pistons, with upgraded pins of course. oh and the pulley is good shape no cracks or issues.
