Which Turbo 4 My Set-Up? .. Going for ~500whp.. Chime in please :)
I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THE SPOOL CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS TURBO(T3/60-1).. DEFINITLY ON A B16 WITH STOCK OR 81.5 BORE .. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CHIME IN ABOUT THE SPOOL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS TURBO ON A SMALL DISPLACEMENT MOTOR SUCH AS MY B16, JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE PEOPLE POSTED IS POSITIVE, I HAVE TO STICK WITH A GARRETT AND RIGHT NOW THIS IS THE ONLY TURBO I CAN AFFORD OR KEEP MY 57 TRIM BUT IT WONT KEEP MY POWER GOALS.. I PLAN TO USE .63 A/R .. AND IM NOT SURE ABOUT THE WHEEL POSSIBLE A STAGE 3 UNLESS I WILL BENEFITS FROM THE STAGE 5.. WHICH WHEEL WOULD GIVE ME BETTER SPOOL AND STILL REACH 500WHP OR CLOSE TO IT.. THANK YOU.. I AM LOOKING FOR A TURBO TO REACH FULL BOOST BY 5K MAX.. I HAVE A B16 TRANS SO 5K ISNT NOTHING REALLY, ONLY IN 1ST GEAR WHICH ILL SPIN ANYWAY RIGHT?
head-b16 head, victor x,68mm TB, CTR cams, adj cam gears, full valvetrain, GE fuel rail, 880 cc injectors, hondata Map sensor
bottom end-b16, 81.50mm, cp 9:1, eagle rods. all oem gaskets/pumps etc brand new motor basically, thermal 3inch exhaust all the way back, 255lph Fuel pump
turbo set:peak boost setup, 44mmWG, 600whp intercooler, ramhorn peak boost, t3/t4 57 trim .63 A/R, 3in DP , tial bov (peakboost ftw kit with upgraded intercooler and WG)
now, i was thinkin about returning my 57trim turbo while it is brand new and getting the garrett T3/60-1... my question to you is, what do you think about that? i would like to make as close to 500whp or possible more if possible.. everything on my car i belive is set-up for 600whp except my 57 trim turbo, and im assuming my sleeves (they are stock), i will be running 93 pump gas, i know that can possible hold me back, but my brother is a subaru guy and he says yea of course obviously if you put 10psi on your 57trim turbo then 10psi on the 60-1 its going to make more power. i heard the spool isnt that much worst, i would prob go with the stage 3 wheel maybe 5? and def .63 A/R. what are your thoughts on this, if this was your set up what turbo would you choose and why? .. if there is another turbo out there that would meet my goal or needs better could you lmk what it is and ill look into it..but i really want as close as possible to 500whp and i dont think the 57trim is going to cut it.. but i think the t3/60-1 will cut it.. what do you think? what is your input? .. i know the pump gas is a drawlback but it is a street car..

i have did a little research on honda-tech and it seems like a good idea, but i talked to ken at peakboost where i got my kit and he is saying its not a good idea ill give u a simple rundown of my build then my question

the 880cc injectors will also get you to ~500whp but you will most likely be at 95-100% duty cyle. My brothers turbo integra maxed out at 506whp on race gas with 880cc before he got 1000cc. so the injectors will limit you before your 60-1 turbo (if you go with that one)
you said you will be on pump gas, well to make ~500whp with that set up you will need race gas such as 110, or 112 .
Hope I helped, and GL!!

The first thing that concerns me is the B16 stock sleeves. 50/50 chance that they will hold the kind of boost that you will need to run to make the number. Not trying to be a downer just being realistic from our past experiences.
For the turbo look into Precision Billet units, they have 5557 Billet that is rated at 535HP from them and usually the HP estimates have been low. If you want a little more then the 5857 is rated for 605HP. The 6262 is rated for 670HP. The main differences will be spool time, sacrifice some top end for better spool or the other way around. All these turbos are available in ball bearing as well.

The Garret gt30r or the gt35r would be a better turbo and many people here have use seen good results. I'm not to sure with the precision billet turbo, there were so Much talk about it and only a few have made here have mAde good power. We have a few experience with it and it was all hape only.

Re: Which Turbo 4 My Set-Up? .. Going for ~500whp.. Chime in please :)
yea, for some reason my tuner and ken at peakboost are telling me to stick with the 57trim and no to go with the t3/60-1 i would like to make more power, and i kinda have to stick with a garret if i want to return mine and pay the difference, because i got it with my peakboost set-up and ken at peakboost is willing to let me return it and pay the difference and they only carry garret turbo's ... is anyone here running a 60-1 turbo and what kind of spool characteristic's are you getting, i was told with my 57 trim i would hit full boost at around 4k from ken at peakboost.. i would really like to get as close to 500whp as possible.. i could even return my injectors and get 1000cc's if i want, there still brand new, i think the 60-1 would get me there, what would be a good estimate at full boost with the 60-1... i can only use a garrett turbo, and the 60-1 would be the only turbo i would be able to afford right now
EDITT: IF i go with the t3/60-1 i will most likely get the .63 a/r because the 43 will prob choke and the 83 will prob be too much and too much lag correct? .. and about the wheels.. im not to familar how they work, most the time you have a choice between a stage 3 wheel and a stage 5 wheels. can someone maybe tell me the difference? i want it to spool as close as possible to the 57 trim i currently have.. should i go with a stage 3 or 5 wheel with my set up and it being a b16..
please chime in with spool characteristics, and the wheel comparison's this is my first turbo build and i want it to basically be all out..

With the stock b16 sleeves and pump gas I would personally stay with the 57 trim and shoot for ~400whp. If you want to push it though then go with the 60-1, it seems like your only option considering all of your factors.

has anyone ran a t3/60-1 on a b16? if so when did you reach full boost, that is my main concern and would you maybe please include your stage wheel, and your A.R? ... and if you dont mind was it stock bore or 81.5 or sleeved an over bored.. thank you very much, im leaning towards this turbo however i need to know the spool characteristics! .. thank you.. someone please chime in..

Well, I'd also stick with your 57 trim turbocharger and get use to the car for its capabilities. The standard 60-1 comes with a mismatched turbine wheel (stage 3) from the start for the horsepower that you're looking for. Its best to get the stage 5 upgrade for that power. But the S cover that it comes with is completely unnecessary.
The precision units can work but are rated by horsepower TO THE CRANK, at over 25psi of pressure, and not to the wheels. BUT there are other alternatives depending upon your budget.
Learn with what you have first. The power will come when you have more experience. Using a 60-1 on a small engine like the B16 can work, but is very peaky with little powerband to gain.
